Obituary of Albert Scott Leach
Albert Scott “Red” Leach passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 26, 2013. He was only 49 years old.
Scott was born and raised in Somerville. He was a graduate of the Full Circle High School in Somerville. Scott was reserved, quiet , and unassuming man, except when it came to talking about history and anything that had a motor and then he was vociferous and a bit opinionated. He would much rather working on a motor than being part of a social gathering. He was an extremely talented mechanic and could work on everything from lawnmowers, motorcycles, cars, to heavy equipment. He was always there when a family member or friend had a mechanical problem and often would make repairs for the cost of the parts. He could be bit of a “MacGyver” when someone needed a repair and had limited funds. He was known to repair a muffler with a Campbell soup can or whatever was lying around the shop. He had worked for a number of automotive repair shops over the years and was currently working at Topsfield Shell.
While many folks follow sports, Scott was a bit of a history buff. His favorite station on television was the History Channel. He was fascinated with the events, weapons, and tactic used during World War II. He was a wealth of knowledge and could name the all the various tanks used by all the warring nations, the ammunition they used, and their strengths and weaknesses. Just as football fans dispute whether Tom Brady or Peyton Manning is the better quarterback, Scott could argue the differences between a German Panzer Tank and the American Sherman Tank and which tank would win in a head to head battle. It just made sense to him.
Scott was the loving son of Alberta (Colosi) Leach of Newburyport, formerly of Somerville and the late Jack Leach, Sr. He was the brother of Jack Leach, Jr. of Portland OR, Julie Sahlas & her husband Bill of N. Andover, and Jodi Dickie & her husband Frank of Burlington. He was the uncle of Melissa, Emily, & Joan Ruth Dickie, Ellie & Anna Leach, and Pheobe & Jack Sahlas.
