Obituary of Thelma Giacoppo

Thelma M. (Sparre) Giacoppo, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center on Friday evening, December 27, 2013. The beloved wife of 64 years of Michael Giacoppo she was 81 years old. Thelma was born and raised in Cambridge. She was the daughter of the late Carl and Alice Sparre. Thelma was a graduate of Cambridge High and Latin High School. Thelma and Michael lived in Cambridge for a number of years when they were first married and then moved to Burlington in the mid 70’s. Thelma loved to travel and visited many destinations such as Aruba, Florida, Italy, France and Russia to name a few. She saw it all. The Giacoppo family enjoyed many family vacations together the most recent vacation a family trip to Italy! Sweden was one of her favorite destinations to visit. She was so proud to go there and visit the area of her family history Thelma was a passionate Boston sports fan most especially the Celtics and the Patriots. She was even known to have taught her sons a thing or two about playing basketball when they were children. Thelma had a great love of animals and there was always a family pet whether it was a dog or cat as part of the family. Thelma’s children always came first. Her life revolved around her husband, her children and their families. She was an important part of her grandchildren’s lives as they were growing up whether it was babysitting or attending one of their school events. She was supportive of her husband Michael’s career while he was working as a Law Enforcement Officer for the City of Cambridge and for all his volunteer activities supporting the Veterans Organizations. Thelma will be remembered as being a loving and supportive wife, mother, and nana. Thelma was the beloved wife of Michael Giacoppo. She was the loving mother of Michael Giacoppo & his wife Margaret of Burlington, Steven Giacoppo & his wife Kathryn of Burlington, Richard Giacoppo & his wife Bernadette of Norwood, Cheryl O’Leary & her husband Kenneth of Burlington, and Scott Giacoppo & his wife Maureen of Washington, D.C. Sister of Carl Sparre & his wife Edith of Lexington. Proud Nana of 7. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday, Dec. 31 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Cambridge Cemetery. Memorials in Thelma’s name may be made to Washington Humane Society, 7319 George Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20012.
