Obituary of Charles Rose

Charles L. Rose, Jr., owner of Van Courier Express passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014 at the Winchester Hospital. He was 67 years old. Charlie was born in Cambridge, the son of the late Charles and Helen (Doyle) Rose. He grew up in Cambridge and was a graduate of Cambridge High and Latin. He then enlisted in the Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served as a medical corpsman and served at Valley Forge Hospital in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. During those years he cared for wounded soldiers, especially those with amputations, helping them rehabilitate and adapt to prostheses’. He was discharged in 1968 receiving the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He returned home to Cambridge and went to work at AT&T’S Lucent Technology Division. The best part of working for AT&T for 16 years was meeting and marrying his wife, Patricia. He then went to work at a number of companies before founding his own company, Van Courier Express. He ran his own company for over 10 years. Charlie was very involved in the community. He served as a member of the Burlington Ways and Means Committee for a number of years. He was a member of the Burlington Knights of Columbus and the Cambridge United American Veterans organization. He was a coach and trainer for the Burlington Pop Warner Football. He also a member the committee that ran one the biggest and longest golf tournaments for its day, the Burlington Golf Classic, which combined a golf tournament with 3 or 4 skill levels and well attended banquet with prizes, dinner, and dancing for the golfer and their spouses. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed weekly golf matches and numerous tournaments and golf vacations with his friends. On and off the golf course, Charlie’s quick wit and unique sense of humor provided endless laughs with his family and friends. Charlie was the loving husband of 42 years of Patricia A. (Cyr) Rose. He was the proud and loving father of Stacie Carvotta & her husband Doug of Woodstock, GA and Christopher Rose of Manchester, NH. He was the brother of Mary Jane Rose of Weston and the late Isabelle Guiney. Charlie was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Wednesday, January 15 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 2:15 p.m.
