Assunta Addario

Obituary of Assunta D Addario

Assunta E. “Susie” D’Addario, a woman devoted to her family, passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice House with her daughters and grandchildren at her bedside on Saturday night, March 22, 2014. She was 90 years old. Susie was born in her family’s home in East Boston, the daughter of Italian immigrants, the late Frank and Mary Podeia. She grew up in East Boston in a home steeped in Italian values, food, and heritage. Family was the center of her life. She continued the traditions and customs she learned as a child. There is an Italian expression “A tavola non si invecchia” which translates to “At the table with good friends and family you do not become old”. Her home was the gathering place for her children, grandchildren, family and friends. Sundays spent around the dining room table was something everyone not only looked forward to, but expected. It was a time to share the week’s events and appreciate each other’s company. Susie and Al loved having their grandchildren visit whether it was for an hour, afternoon, or overnight. She and her husband were married in June of 1945 and their bond continued for all of their 65 years of marriage. They both had their own careers, Susie worked as a secretary for a director in the Department of Public Welfare and Al as an upholsterer. They filled their retirement years helping raise their grandchildren, daily shopping trips, going out to eat, and traveling. One of her favorite vacations was visiting Italy. She was an avid reader and loved her soap operas. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Charles Church. She will be lovingly remembered by all her family and friends. Susie was the loving wife of the late Albert D’Addario. She was the loving mother of Elizabeth Morneau & her husband Maurice of Burlington and Mary D’Addario of Woburn. She was the sister of Lena Distaso of Wakefield & Acton and the late Vera Ferranti. Grandmother of Kimberly Adis of Newtown, CT, Kristen Sparks of Burlington, Mark Morneau of Philadelphia, PA. Great grandmother of Kailey & Ian Sparks and Nolan & Colin Adis. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Thursday, March 27 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Charles Church, 280 Main St., Woburn at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
