Obituary of Jesse Gregory

Jesse “Tex” Gregory passed away at Wilmington Health Care on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the age of 87 years old. Jesse was the beloved husband of 50 years of Jean (Shea). Jesse was born, raised and educated in Athens, Texas. He was the son of the late Marshall and Letha Gregory. Jesse was a veteran of the United States Navy serving his country during World War II. He was the recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon, American Area Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was proud of his service to his country and in later years was a member of the VFW and the DAV. During his days in the service, Jesse became a New York Yankee fan, a passion he kept throughout the years even after living in Massachusetts! After the War he settled in Somerville. He also lived in Belmont, Arlington and Cape Cod. He had been a resident of Burlington for the past 25 years. Throughout his life Jesse always involved himself in the automotive industry. As an eight year old, he actually refurbished a Model A Ford which became the family’s transportation. In his younger days, Jesse built and raced stock cars throughout New England. After the service he had a successful career as an independent truck driver and traveled throughout the United States which he loved. He was also an expert professional auto mechanic. Jesse owned a used auto sales business during his days of living on Cape Cod. He never forgot his Texas roots and always made sure to make trips to visit his parents in Texas. Jesse was the beloved husband of 50 years of Jean (Shea). Jesse was the loving father of Susan Leonard of Melrose, Nancy Troy & her husband Jack of Melrose, Peter Gregory of Melrose, John Lee Gregory of Melrose and Lawrence Gregory & his partner Mary Anderson of Somerville. Stepfather of Edward Murphy of Arlington. Grandfather of Gregory Leonard, Stephanie Powers, Nicole Spillane, Jonathan & Suzanne Troy and Jesse & Lee Gregory. Also survived by 7 great grandchildren: Taylor, Madison, Hannah, Amanda, Kara, Reagan, and Liam. A visiting hour will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Monday, March 31 from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 11:30 a.m. Interment in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials in Jesse’s name may be made to New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans, Development Office, 9th Floor, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108.
