Obituary of Bennett Wightman
Bennett Wightman passed away in Florida on Thursday, December 7, 2006 after a short illness at 83 years old. Bennett was a WWII veteran serving with the Army in the European Theater. He worked for many years at Moody Motors in Winchester before moving on to St. Johnsbury Trucking, Braintree MA. He lived most of his life in Winchester then Londonderry, NH before retiring to Florida. He was an avid tennis player, seeded Top Ten in New England - Over 40 Age bracket. He also taught tennis in Florida and was an avid bicyclist. Ben took pride in working around his home and garden. He had been an officer of the Winchester Elks for many years as well as a member of the VFW. He was an excellent piano/organ player, performing with a trio for a number of years.
Bennett is the father of Charlene W. Puzzo of Derry, NH, Bennett Wightman, Jr. of Sturbridge, Joseph W. Wightman of Derry, NH, Janet W. Politi of Willis, NY, and the late Richard B. Wightman. Son of the late William H. and Margaret Boyd Wightman, brother of the late Henry B. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON on Friday Dec. 29 at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow at the Wildwood Cemetery in Winchester. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bennett’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472. Past member of the Winchester Elks and VFW
