My family grew up in Riverdale with the Robbins family. My father owned Riverdale Oil and Mrs. Robbins was one of his favorite customers. My sister played basketball with Billy and Sonny for many teen years. Sonny was special. He had a great memories of the good old days and always remembered where he came from. He was a generous supporter of the Howe High/BMHS Alumni where he gave two scholarships in Billy Robbins name. He will be missed by all. Rest in Peace, Sonny

Sonny was one of the most respected officials I encountered during my tenure as the Tyngborough High School Baseball Coach. Whenever we competed and knew that Sonny was doing the game, it was obvious that things were well in hand. He love for the game of baseball, officiating, and the players and coaches whom he influenced made each contest a postive experience. He was a calming influence. He was a great one. I was a better coach because of him.
My sincere sympathy to the family.

After reading all of the entries in this guestbook, there nothing I have to say that hasn't been said already. Being a fellow e-board member with Sonny on the Greater Lowell Baseball Umpires Board for the past few years it was a real pleasure listening to his wisdom at the meetings. He helped fellow umpires in ways they did not even realize ! Sonny left a legacy which we will always remember (both on and off the field).

Worked & was friend to Robbie for twenty years. He was a Renaissance man, financial advisor, story teller, loyal & devoted to his family. Someone I looked up too & admired for the good man that he was. He will be missed.

Peggy, I am shocked and sad to hear about Robbie. When I saw him
at my Mom's wake, he looked so good, he was very happy telling me
that he was still umpiring! He was my Dad's best friend, and they are
together again. He helped my Dad threw a lot of tough times, he was
very special to our family. My heart brakes for you at this time of
sorrow, but know Robbie lives on in Heaven! Love, Debbie

Speaking on behalf of Central Catholic HS and in particular our Raider baseball program, it is with great sadness that I extend our genuine condolences with the passing of Sonny. High school baseball in Massachusetts holds it's head high having Sonny part of our game for so many years. A gentleman and the true example of sportsmanship between the white lines. His respect for the coaches and kids will never be forgotten. I salute his dedication and passion for overseeing umpires and fair play. A good man will be missed. Be at peace Sonny.

Having worked directly with Sonny over the past few years, he was so instrumental in my development as a varsity baseball umpire. He was an advocate of fair play and every game be officiated at the highest level on behalf of the players whose playing careers might end after finishing high school. As a member of the G.L.B.U.A. I will miss him along with my brother umpires.

It is with great sadness and a most heavy heart I offer my deepest condolences to Sonny's family. Rarely does one have the opportunity in their lifetime of being so profoundly affected upon meeting someone for the first time. Sonny had that affect on me, and am truly blessed to have had the good fortune, privilege and honor of saying he was my friend. There are no words to express how much Sonny will be missed, and cannot imagine the depths of your sorrow. I wish you, God's speed.

To Robby's family, my condolences. I was Robby's secretary at Polaroid, R2 Waltham. He was the best of the best bosses ever. He always treated everyone with respect and also had a great sense of humor. He was my teacher not only for work, but in life. He was well liked by all, top and middle management and average worker. He made it a pleasure to go to work everyday.
His encouragement, helped me in my career in Polaroid and beyond. I will miss him as everyone will I'm sure.
There's got to be horse races and ball games in heaven for Robby.

I offer my deepest sympathies to the Robbins family. I always enjoyed spending time with Sonny, whether on the field, in a meeting or in his living room. He exemplified the best in everything that he did. I personally witnessed a few coaches look to the parking lot to see who was getting ready to umpire their games and turning back to focus on their own team when they saw Sonny walking in. Not onlhy did he know the rules - he knew the intent of them and saw that they were administered so that each team had a fair chance. I will miss his presence and good natured humor. We had many laughs together and he offered sound advice. I hope that the many happy memories that you have of him will be of consolation in the coming days. May he rest in peace.

Peg, Billy and Mark,
Today is truly one of the saddest days for me as I learned of Sonny's passing. As I reflect back on my life with Sonny and his tremendous influence on me, there is not enough time to write how large a role he played in my life. Second only to my Father, Sonny was a mentor and coach. But best of all he was a devoted loyal friend throughout my life. To this day I still feel the impact of his many learnings and have tried to pass them on to my two sons as well as those I have coached along the way. I could fill volumes with the little things he taught me along the way.
And the memories? The game of football, his inspirational speech to a bunch of young men at half time on a bus in Pa. when we were playing a team in a game that had great meaning to many at that time, we won! On and on the stories would go... on a trip I was making to Ireland, he mentioned if I was thinking of going to the Galway Races to look for horses trained by a person he worked with. I did. I bet every horse this trainer worked with and won!
Sonny was always coaching... To me it's yesterday and we are throwing a football around in his yard, and talking about everything in life.... I will always remember his time with me and treasure it until we meet again... and throw the ball around once more.
Sonny, I will never forget you and thank you for all that you did for me. More than you would ever know.
