Obituary of John Joseph Skehan

John Joseph Skehan, a resident of Burlington for 50 years, passed away at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center of Sunday morning, April 27, 2014. The beloved husband of Marguerite “Marge” (Mahoney) whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on April 11th, he was 84 years old. John was born in Waltham. He was the son of the late John and Catherine Skehan. He was raised and educated in Brighton and a graduate of Our Lady of the Presentation High School. John then went on to graduate from Boston College in 1951. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving his country in the United States Army from 1951-1953. John achieved the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars and the UN Service Medal. John had a successful career in the HVAC Industry working. He retired from Brenton & Hart where he worked in Sales. John had many interests. He was a collector of all different types of “clocks”. John loved to work in his garden. He was very mechanically inclined and was a “jack of all trades”. John and his family had a memorable trip together to Ireland where his son was married. John’s family was the center of his life. He was very involved in his children’s lives and was proud to see them grow into adulthood. He was blessed to have 9 grandchildren who touched his life in such a wonderful way. His eyes would light up just to see them and they brought so much joy to his life. John was the beloved husband of 50 years to Marguerite “Marge” (Mahoney) He was the Loving father of John Skehan Jr. & his wife Victoria of Gilmanton Ironworks, NH, Gregory Skehan & his wife Sherry of Burlington, James Skehan & his wife Maureen of Reading, Richard Skehan of Burlington, Mary Skehan of Billerica and Charles Skehan of Burlington. He was the brother of Thomas Skehan of PA, Patricia Garvey of Falmouth, David Skehan of FLA and the late Catherine McCusker. Proud Grandfather of Caitlyn, John, Joseph, Brianna, Marissa, Gregory Jr., Christopher, Brooke & Jake Skehan. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, May 1 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. Memorial’s in John’s name may be made to St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington, MA 01803.
