Obituary of Leland Preble

Leland L. Preble of Burlington,April 29, 84 years old, after a brief illness. Leland was born and raised in Dorchester. He was the son of the late Irving Preble and Sara (Libbey) Preble. Brother of the late Paul Preble. He was married to the late Helen (O’Keefe) White with whom he had his two children. He remarried Olga (Zolner) Preble and they were together for nearly 25 years before her sudden death. Always a romantic soul, he was still seeking love and remarried again to the late Sandra (Hart) Preble. Leland spent much of his free time in his rustic camp in Warren, NH. He loved the outdoors and nature. His heart was always in New Hampshire. He was an unofficial mushroom expert and loved walking the trails through the woods to find edible ones. He cooked homemade baked beans in a crock in the ground. Leland was a kind, quiet man. Simple pleasures were all he needed to bring him joy. He found great pleasure in taking his beloved Cadillac out for a drive. He loved sales and bargains. He would drive an extra 8 miles for the free coffee that Market Basket offered. He loved family gatherings and going out to dinner and the dessert. He loved toasting any occasion with a boilermaker. Then he would slip in a non-characteristic joke. He had all kinds of ideas for inventions. He worked for the federal government as a machinist in the Charlestown Naval Yard. He also did testing for the FDA as well as lighthouse maintenance before his retirement. He was a World War II disabled veteran. He was very proud to have been a member of the Masonic Temple for over 61 years. He was also a member of the Shriners. He found great community as a member of the Park Street Church in Boston, MA for most of his life. He leaves behind his son, Walter Preble & Cathryn Hurl-Preble, and their daughter Justine, all of South Boston. He also leaves his daughter, Linda (Preble) Swanson & her husband, Herb, and their daughter, Emily, all of Kingston, MA. He will be sorely missed.
