Obituary of Walter Brown
Walter T. Brown, a Veteran and Baker passed away after a short illness on Thursday morning, May 15, 2014. He was 74 years old. Walter grew up and was educated in Melrose. He enlisted in the Army in 1959 and served in the Army for 5 and half years and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He then served in the National Guard until 1982. Walter was very proud of his military service and was always prepared to serve in whatever role his country needed him. He was called to duty on numerous occasions to support military preparedness and natural disasters, such as the Blizzard of 1978. He was recognized on many occasions for his service and contributions to the Army and Army National Guard. As part of his funeral services, he will be presented with Military Honors in recognition for his many years of service to his Country and community.
Walter had a number of careers in his civilian life. He spent many years as a baker at Brandanos Bakery in Revere. He also worked as a house painter and handy man. He was a member of the American Legion in Revere. Walter was a bit of a showman and always enjoyed brightening the lives of others. He would play Santa Claus during the holidays and enjoyed Karaoke. He loved to sing Johnny Cash songs and often sang at the Seniors, Stop & Shop in Revere, parties, celebrations, and charitable events.
Walter was a devoted and caring husband to his wife, Joan (Brogna) Brown for 49 years. He was the loving father of Joan Papandrea & her husband Robert of Billerica and Mark of Saugus. He was the brother of the late Mary Zaino. He was the proud grandfather of Robert and Sydney Papandrea. He was the brother-in-law of Robert Zaino of Peabody, Louise Carbone of Nashua, NH, Norma Taflas of Haverhill, Brenda Sweeny of Haverhill and the late Joseph & Kay Brogna, Thomas Carbone, John Taflas and William Sweeny.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Monday, May 19 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Sunday 4-7 p.m. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Winchester. Memorials in Walter’s name may be made to Dr. Matthew Shwartz Hospice & Palliative Care, 123 Captain’s Row, Chelsea, MA 02150.
