Obituary of Geraldine Miller

Geraldine A. “Gerry” Miller, a retired nurse and a woman of faith and kindness passed away after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease on Friday evening, June 13, 2014. She was 82 years old. Gerry was born in Braintree, the daughter of the late John and Geraldine Hennedy. She grew up in Braintree. She was a proud alumnus of Thayer Academy in Braintree. She went on to graduate from Quincy City Hospital School of Nursing. Being a nurse was the perfect profession for Gerry. She was a woman of kindness, compassion, and opened her heart to all whose lives she touched. Her career included Nursing at Choate Hospital in Woburn, Medical Offices, and then as an Occupational Health Nurse. She retired from Mitre Corporation where she directed the Health Office for 20 years. She ran programs to help employees quit smoking and who were battling alcohol abuse. She was well respected and loved at work. Everyone knew they could visit “Nurse Gerry” not only for health issues, but personal issues as well. She was a longtime member of the Massachusetts Nurses Association and the Greater Boston Occupational Health Nurse Association, where she was a Past President. Gerry was a woman of faith, community and family. She was a very active member of St. Malachy Church where she was involved in their C.C.D. PROGRAM, Small Faith Group, Morgairs Group, and prison ministry. Gerry was known in her neighborhood in Burlington for her kindness and compassion. She had an open door policy. All her family, friends, and their friends knew that Gerry and Don’s home on Rahway Road was a safe haven for those going thru rocky times. Gerry gave them a place to sleep, warm meals, guidance, and most importantly unconditional love. She was simply never too busy for anyone. She was the Matriarch of the Miller, Hennedy, and LeProhon families and had a strong influence on her all her children, nieces, and nephews. Gerry will be remembered for wisdom, courage, compassion, and love. Heaven has gained a special angel with Gerry’s passing. Gerry was the loving wife of 61 years of Donald F. Miller. She was the loving mother of MaryBeth Thibodeau & her husband Gary of Lowell, Michael F. & his wife Sandra of Hampton, NH, Judy Armstrong & her husband Larry of Windham, NH, Kevin J. & his wife Christina of Pelham, NH, Mark J. & his wife Linda of Dracut, and the late Thomas H. She was the sister of Hugh Hennedy of Biddeford Pool, ME, John Hennedy of East Greenwich, RI, and the late Christine LeProhon and sister-in-law of Doris Hennedy, Marie Hennedy, and Joe LeProhon. She was the adoring grandmother of Renee, Sean, James, & Maryanne Thibodeau, Greg Holt, Shannon Holt-Smith, Brian, Timothy, Patrick, Thomas, Kasey, Riley, Megan, & Matthew Miller. She was the great grandmother of Melissa Holt, Amara Miller, Henry & Simone Thibodeau. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Tuesday, June 17 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy Church, Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Monday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Geraldine’s name may be made to St. Malachy Church Memorial Fund, 99 Bedford St., Burlington, MA 01803 or Sol Amor/Life Choice Hospice, 170 South River Rd, Building 2, Bedford, NH 03110.
