Obituary of Mary B. Gentile

Mary B. Gentile (Umbrello) passed away at the Sawtelle Family Hospice in Reading on June 26, 2014. She was 93 years old. (br> Mary was born and raised in Waltham. She was a graduate of Waltham High School. She was an administrator for both the Army and the Navy during World War II. During this time, Mary married her husband Dominic in 1942. She moved to Woburn in 1954 and spent those early years raising her family and being involved with St. Barbara’s Women’s Club, the Girl Scouts, and later the Lexington Emblem Club. She loved to paint and cook holiday feasts for her family. In 1968 Mary returned to the workforce and became an employee of the Federal Aviation Administration located in Burlington, MA. There she spent nearly 40 years as a program analyst and retired at the age of 87. After her retirement and the passing of her husband, she lived independently until this year. She would go to the Lexington Senior Center and participate in exercise classes with her friends and spent many mornings meeting her dear friends on the West Side for coffee, conversation, and laughter. She also loved to garden and read. Mary had a long and loving marriage to her late husband Dominic for 66 years, who passed away in 2008. Throughout their marriage, they always found time for each other. They had a life filled with excitement, laughter, love, and mutual admiration. They were able to celebrate their wedding anniversaries in Bermuda for many years. Mary and her husband loved to dance at countless socials at the organizations they were both involved in. They also frequented the Jackson Street Ballroom in Malden dancing every Saturday evening. Mary was the mother of Frank A. Gentile and his wife Susan of Yarmouth, ME, Gail D. Gentile of Newburyport, MA, and the late Diane M. Gentile who passed away at the age of 13. Her joy was her granddaughter Megan E. Gentile Theriault and her husband Cole Theriault. Funeral Services were privately held on June 30.
