Obituary of Robert Aurilio

Robert F. Aurilio, a retired Polaroid employee passed away after a brief illness at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center on Wednesday, July 2, 2014. He was 81 years old. Bob was born in Arlington, he was the son of Italian immigrants, the late Antonio and Assunta Aurilio. He was of 10 children growing up in the family home in Arlington filled with Italian cooking and traditions. With such a large family, his home was far from a dull place to grow up. He was a graduate of Arlington High School and then served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. He held the rank of Specialist 3rd Class and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal. Robert went on to have a successful career as a machine mechanic at Polaroid. He spent over 30 years with Polaroid and enjoyed many friendships with his coworkers. Bob married Johanna Berardi and they settled in Burlington in 1966 to raise their 2 children. They say opposites attract and they may have been true for Bob and Johanna. She was the outgoing, bubbly, and center of attention, while he was quiet, simple, and a homebody. But both adored and complimented each other. Johanna’s passing in March of 2012 left a void in Bob’s life that could never be filled. Bob loved his children and grandkids. He enjoyed working around his home and spending hours working in his yard. He could be happy going on a family vacations or just spending the afternoon working a crossword puzzle. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus in Burlington. He will always be remembered by those he loved. Bob was the beloved husband of the late Johanna (Berardi). He was the loving father of Dianne Aurilio-Luther & her partner Dennis Courtney of Burlington and Robert C. Aurilio & his wife Dorothy of Billerica. Brother of the late Rose DeCampo, Evelyn DeCampo. May DiDonato, Eleanor Borsini, Joseph, Louis, Virgilio, Anthony and John Aurilio. Proud grandfather of Tom Luther, Noelle DeFrancesco and Robby Aurilio. Brother-in-law of Maria DiRusso of Burlington and Karl & Mary Berardi of Bedford, NH. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, July 5 from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bob’s name may be made to the Lahey Clinic Medical Center, c/o Philanthropy, (Direct Funds to the Sophia Gordon Cancer Center) 41 Mall Road, Burlington, MA 01805.
