Obituary of Betty Bullock

Betty Marcene (Morrissey) Bullock, a woman who made a difference in the community of Burlington, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, at her home with her family by her side, on Thursday, July 10th, 2014. The beloved wife of the late Walter 'Ed' Bullock, she was 69 years old. Betty was born in Newton. She was the daughter of the late W. Frank and Louisa Morrissey. She was raised and educated in Arlington. After her graduation from Arlington High School Betty went on to graduate from Simmons College in Boston where she majored in Math. Betty and her husband Ed settled in Burlington in 1969. Betty worked for a period of time at Arthur D. Little and then she went on to own her own company for over 30 years called Unlimited Systems. Betty had just retired within the last few years. As a child Betty and her parents enjoyed summering in Wells Maine which was a home that her grandfather had purchased. Betty kept this home in her family and continued to spend time in Wells throughout her entire life. Betty believed in giving back to the community you lived in. She became a Town Meeting Member in 1988. As a Town Meeting Member she rarely missed a meeting and stood up for her beliefs and those who she represented. Betty loved gardening and always had a garden full of flowers and vegetables at her home. Her loved of gardening resulted in Betty joining the Burlington Garden Club. She was a longtime member of the Rotary Club of Burlington. Betty was the first female member of the club, a fact she was very proud of, and was a member for 26 years. She held the position of Treasurer of the club of many years. Betty was the recipient of the prestigious Paul Harris Award. Betty was very involved in all aspects of Rotary. She was in charge of the Lahey 5K Walk. Betty attended the Rotary Club Senior Citizen Valentine Day Dance each year and was very instrumental with 'directing traffic' for the students when the food was served. Betty always opened her home to Rotarians whether it was hosting a BOD meeting or organizing a ladies night out. Betty took great pride in being a member of the club and was always welcoming to new members and helping them to understand the values of Rotary. Betty's faith was very important to her and she was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Arlington. She a member of Billerica Chapter No. 212 Order of the Eastern Star. Betty had been with her companion Jerry for the past 12 years. She had wonderful years with Jerry supporting him in his involvement in the Ancients attending all the events and socials with him. Betty and Jerry had also travelled together taking a number of cruises as well as taking a trip to Ireland in the Spring of 2013 or just taking a trip to Maine! Betty's children and grandchildren were her greatest joy. She was always sharing stories and pictures of her grandchildren with great pride. Her friends heard about all the special moments in her children and grandchildren's lives. Betty will be remembered as a woman who had great love for her family, a woman who touched many lives and made a difference in the community that she lived in. Betty was the beloved wife of the late Walter 'Ed' Bullock. She was the loving mother of Walter 'Wally' F. Bullock and his wife Susan of Billerica and Suzan A. Michaud & her husband Alan of Buxton, ME. She was the proud grandmother of Kayla, Sarah, Matthew & Christopher Bullock and Stephanie, Caitlin, Julia & Angela Michaud. She was the sister-in-law of Sylvia & Pietro DiPlacido and Marilyn Bullock. Betty was the longtime companion of Gerard F. Kelly of Burlington and his children Cynthia Norman & her husband Jeff of Arlington, Gerard F. Kelly, Jr. of Rockport, Brian J. Kelly & his wife Breena of East Boston and his grandchildren Shana, Taylor, Devin, Miread and Brian Kelly, Jr. Betty was also survived by many nieces, nephews and their children. Funeral Services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday, July 15 at 11 a.m. Visiting hours Monday, July 14th from 4-8 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials in Betty's name may be made to the Betty Bullock Rotary Club of Burlington Scholarship, C/O Northern Bank, 13 Center St., Burlington MA 01803.
