Obituary of Lorna Kelly

Lorna M. Kelly a woman of faith and family passed away at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Cambridge on Tuesday morning, July 15, 2014. She was 69 years old. Lorna was born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Gouthro. Lorna grew up and was educated in Nova Scotia. At the age of 24 she immigrated to the United States. It was not long that she met John Kelly and they were married. They raised their family in Medford and she ran a Daycare from her home for many years. Lorna loved children and being a day care provider was much more than a job. Each one of the children she cared for had a special place in her heart and she kept in contact with “her kids” and their families long after the went on to school and become adults. Lorna had a strong Catholic faith and was a member of Saint Raphael Parish in Medford and for the past 12 years St. Margaret’s Church in Burlington. She attended daily mass with her daughter and grandson. She was a wonderful example of a Mother’s faith and steadfast love. Lorna’s family was the center of her life and she made sure that her children knew their Nova Scotian Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. When her children were young, Lorna would spend the summer in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and made a point to make it an annual pilgrimage. Lorna was a devoted wife to husband, John for 43 years. She was the loving and caring mother of Matthew Kelly & his wife Annie of Cambridge and Mary DiMarzo & her husband Brett of Burlington. She was the proud grandmother to Nicholas age 6 and Atticus, who was born 2 weeks ago. She was the sister . Sister of Peter and John Gouthro both of Nova Scotia. Lorna was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Saturday, July 19 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Friday from 6-8 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lorna’s name may be made to Beads for Courage, 3230 North Dodge Blvd, Suite J., Tucson, AZ 85716.
