Obituary of Ronald J. Savoia

Ronald J. Savoia, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday afternoon, July 27, 2014. He was 80 years old. Ron was born in Woburn, the son of the late Joseph and Margaret Savoia. He grew up in Woburn, attended St. Charles School. He furthered his interest in Engineering at Northeastern University. He had made Burlington his home for the past 56 years. Ron spent 42 years employed at Boston Edison. Over those years, he was at facilities in Boston, Somerville, and Woburn. He worked his way from working in the power stations to designer and engineer. He had a sharp mind and a great memory, and even in his retirement years colleagues at Boston Edison would call him to for information and guidance. He really enjoyed his career. Ron was truly a unique individual who followed his own path. He had his own style, with rose colored glasses, western ties, bright colors, and extensive wardrobe. He had a funny sense of humor and it was not unusual for him to dawn a costume to evoke a laugh from a family member or friend. He had many hobbies which included music, flower gardening, cars, and history. He enjoyed reading and writing poetry. Birthday cards sent by Ron always included an original and personal poem written specifically for the recipient. He loved nature and faithfully supported the National Wildlife Federation. He enjoyed many vacations with his wife, Weezie, to Foxwoods, Coco Beach, Paradise Island, the Bahamas and other warm weather destinations. Ron was the loving husband of the late Claire L. “Weezie” (McLaughlin) Savoia. He was the loving father of Lisa Svenson of Tewksbury & her late husband Robert, Brenda Archibald & her husband Joseph of Burlington, Janet Sherman of Wakefield & her fiancée Craig Crockett. He was the father-in-law of Daniel Sherman of Cornish, ME. He was the brother of Janet Burke of Woburn, Joseph Savoia, Jr. of Woburn & the late Daniel Savoia. Ron was the proud grandfather of Jillian Rhynd, Keith Svenson, Michelle Archibald, Daniel Sherman, and late Kerianne Sherman. Great grandfather of Sienna Louise Rhynd. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Thursday, July 31 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ron’s name may be made to Eastern Paralyzed Veterans of America, 7 Mill Brook Rd, Wilton, NH 03086. Retired Boston Edison employee.
