Obituary of Raymond Carrigg

Raymond J. Carrigg, a Veteran of the Korean War, passed away at the Wingate of Reading Nursing Home on Tuesday evening, August 5, 2014. He was 82 years old. Ray was born, raised, and educated in Lowell. He was the son of the late Raymond J. and Genevieve (Milewski) Carrigg. Ray was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving his country in the United States Navy. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, Navy Occupational Medal, and the National Defense Medal. After the service Ray attended Northeastern University in the evenings earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Business. He went on to have a successful career in the manufacturing industry, working at AVCO, MA/COM, and retiring from GTE Sylvania where he worked for many years as a Senior Buyer. He settled in Burlington in 1961 and married his wife Barbara in 1967. Ray liked gardening, especially in the early years. He enjoyed following all of the Boston sports teams, and he was an avid reader. After his retirement Ray enjoyed going to the Senior Center in Burlington where he made many friends. After his health began to decline he kept in touch with his many friends through phone conversations. Ray was the husband of Barbara (Grzesik). Father of Elizabeth Haigh and her husband Robert Haigh, Jr. of Burlington, Robert Carrigg and his spouse Robert Sutherlin of Charlestown, and Stephanie Carrigg of Chelsea. Brother of Patricia Carrigg and William Carrigg, both of Tewksbury. Grandfather of Sarah, Caroline, and Madeline Haigh. Memorial Services with Military Honors will be held at Pine Haven Cemetery, Bedford St., Burlington on Monday, Aug. 11 at 12 Noon. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers memorials in Ray’s name may be made to the Burlington Council on Aging, 61 Center St., Burlington MA 01803.
