Obituary of Paul James Wright
Paul James Wright, Dental Surgeon LDS, RCS, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2014 after a brief illness. He was 87 years old.
Born in Wembley, west London, Paul grew up in and around London. Educated at Ampleforth College, Paul qualified at Guy’s Hospital London then served the British Army in the Royal Army Dental Corp both in the UK and in North Africa. A highly regarded dental surgeon caring passionately for his many patients, Paul practiced in London for over 40 years before retiring to Gosport at the age of 68. Paul followed his father Jim’s footsteps, both as a dental surgeon and sailor, competing for many years in the Contessa 32 series from Portsmouth Harbour in the UK.
Paul was a loving and caring husband to his wife Angela for 61 years. They enjoyed traveling all over the world. It seemed so appropriate that Paul passed away on the eve of third anniversary of Angela’s passing. He taught his sons to be independent. He was very proud and happy to be “Grandpa” to his six grandchildren. The Catholic faith was immensely important to both Paul and Angela; Paul was active in his churches wherever he lived. Moving to the United States at the age of 80 and settling in Burlington, he found an extremely warm reception from his new neighbors and from the parishioners at St. Malachy’s Church. Earlier this year, at age 87 Paul proudly took US Citizenship.
Beloved husband of the late Angela (Davies). Much loved father of Andrew and his wife Paola of South Africa, Justin and his partner Deb of Ipswich MA and Patrick and his wife Toni of England. Brother of Angela Thomas of London, Tony Wright of Portchester and the late Mary Davidson of London. Much loved grandfather of Adam, Paul and Georgia Wright, James and Dominic Wright and Virginia Pledger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Malachy Church on Wednesday, August 20 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Paul’s name may be made to St. Malachy Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington, MA 01803. Arrangements under direction of the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, Burlington.
