Obituary of Vera Lindquist
Vera W. Lindquist, owner of Lindquists Florist in Wakefield, passed away at the Wilmington Healthcare Facility in Wilmington on Friday night, December 2, 2011. She was 90 years old.
Vera was a lifelong resident of Woburn. Her parents, Olaf and Ottilia Rosengren were immigrants from Sweden. She was educated in Woburn and at the age of 20 she married Chester W. Lindquist. It was not long after she was married, the World War II began. Her husband was called to serve in the Army from 1944 to 1946 and remained home with their family. After Chester returned home, he and his brother became owners and operators of Lindquist Conservatories in Wakefield and founded Lindquist Florist in 1947. The Floral Shop was Vera’s second home and was part of her family’s lifestyle. The business still continues today with her daughters at the helm. Vera was an excellent Floral Designer and very kind to her many loyal customers over the years.
Vera had a number of interests outside of her floral Shop. She loved gardening and spent hours nurturing her flower beds and vegetables. She loved sports and played as well as coached volleyball. She worked as clerk in the Polls during the Woburn elections. She was a talented knitter. Her most cherished role was that of Matriarch to the Lindquist family. Her love and devotion to her family was ceaseless.
Vera was the beloved wife of 68 years of the late Chester W. Lindqusits. She was the loving mother of Joan Govostes & her husband Bill of Woburn, Joyce Marshall & her husband George of Woburn, and Steven & his wife Betsy of Chelmsford. She was predeceased by her siblings; Ebba Hertz and Steven Rosengren. She was also survived by 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (ext 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. Visiting hours Monday from 6-8 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
