Obituary of Samuel Peter Martorano
Samuel Peter Martorano, loving husband of Patricia Ann (Carr) Martorano, passed away after a year and half battle with cancer on Monday morning, September 1, 2014. He was 72 years old.
He was the loving father of Lee Martorano of Woburn and Stephen Martorano & his wife Sarah of Somerville. He was the brother of Nicholas of Melrose and Michael of Acton. Sam was the proud grandfather of Kaitlyn Mulford and Liliana & Sorley Martorano. Sam was born in Boston, the son of the late Samuel and Rose Martorano. He grew up working around his father’s Pharmacy in Cambridge. He was a graduate of Cambridge High and Latin High School, Bentley College, and Suffolk University for his MBA. While in his college years, he served 3 years in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He spent much of his service with the Medical Detachment of the 20th Station Hospital USARSEVEN and was the recipient of the Good Conduct and Marksman Medals. Sam was an extremely hard working individual who loved helping others and being industrious. He worked as the Controller at an architectural/engineering company in Cambridge; Brown Daltas & Associates, for 25 years. During the 70's-90's, Sam co-owned Campus Rentals refrigerator company serving colleges and universities throughout New England. Most recently, he ran his own accounting and consulting business up until his illness last year.
Sam loved people and he worked hard to maintain his relationships throughout his life. Despite years gone by and distances apart he had continued to maintain friendships from as far back as grammar school.
He was a fervent reader on a wide variety of subjects. He loved history, politics, non-fiction books and often recommended and shared his favorite books with family and friends. His love of books eventually lead him to become a Burlington Library Trustee. With all his knowledge, experiences, and diverse interests he could always find common points for conversation.
Sam had a number of interests outside of work. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed skiing, swimming, hiking, biking, and exploring. He traveled extensively with his wife Pat, family, and friends. He frequented Italy and St. Croix, and countless other destinations. He was a proud member of the Town of Burlington Republican Committee and the National Republican Committee. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife Pat for 47 years. He was a supportive and encouraging father and a very proud grandfather.

Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Thursday Sept. 4 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy’s Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
