Obituary of Michael Bova
Michael A. Bova, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center, on Friday afternoon, September 5, 2014. The beloved husband of Ceil (Delaney) for 42 years was 66 years old.
Mike was born, raised and educated in Brighton. He was the son of the late Anthony and Julia Bova. He was a graduate of St. Columbkille High School in Brighton. Mike went on to graduate from Bentley College with an Associates Degree in Accounting. He was also a member of the Army National Guard based in Brookline. Mike worked at Instron Corp. in Canton and retired from Reed Business in Waltham where he was a Credit Manager.
Mike and Ceil married in 1972 and settled in Burlington in 1976 where they would raise their son Michael. Mike was very involved in his son Michael’s life, coaching him in little league as well as being a Scout Master. He had a great love of children and even as his son got older Mike continued to be involved in little league and scouts. He was in the Burlington Cable Access Television and was a regular panelist on the the "e;These Olde Farts"e; program. He was affectionately known as “Uncle Mike” to all his nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Mike had a special place in all their hearts and was very close to all of them. He enjoyed taking trips to Disney World with his nieces and nephews and was always happiest when others were happy. Mike also had a fondness for animals, most especially dogs. There was always a dog in the Bova Family. The most memorable was Ginger and currently his best friend, Penny!
Mike followed all the Boston sports teams and went to many games, especially Red Sox games with his son Michael. He had a great love of music and was an avid fan of the Beach Boys, Chuck Berry and most especially The Rolling Stones. Mike never missed a Rolling Stones concert and attended many of them with his son Michael. Mike and Ceil had a wonderful marriage. They had just celebrated their 42nd Wedding Anniversary in August. They enjoyed traveling whether it was a cruise, a trip to Disney World where they had a time share or visiting some of the local attractions in Boston when family came to visit. They celebrated their 25th Anniversary and renewed their vows on a cruise with friends. Mike surprised Ceil with a trip to Hawaii for their 35th Anniversary. Mike was blessed to see his son Michael get married to his wonderful wife Rachel this past June in Maine. It was a fabulous wedding attended by many family and friends with Mike dancing to the very end.
Mike was the beloved husband of 42 years of Ceil (Delaney). He was the proud and loving father of Michael A. Bova, Jr. & his wife Rachel of Portland, ME. Mike was also survived by many brother & sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials in Mike’s name may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
