Obituary of Gertrude Salvi
Gertrude A. Salvi, a woman devoted her life to caring for her family, passed away on November 3, 2014. She was 90 years old. Gertrude was born in Somerville, the daughter of the late Venerio and Amelia Baldacci. Even at an early age, she knew the importance of unconditional love and devotion to family. When she was in High School, her father passed away and she chose to give her up schooling to help care for and support her family. Over the years she worked as an administrative assistant at Employer’s Liability Insurance, Carbone’s Liquors, and Hood Milk. She married Guido Salvi, a Somerville Fire Fighter and they had 2 children. There are many challenges living with a fire fighter who is often in harm’s way, but Gertrude not only accepted that way of life, but supported her husband and his fellow fire fighters as a member and Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Somerville Fire Department. As a mother, Gertrude always place her children first supporting them in activities, work, and life’s choices. Summer vacations spent in York, Maine were always a special time of the year. She enjoyed going to Bingo with her girlfriends. She made her home for the past 18 years at the Tower Hill Senior apartments in Burlington, where she enjoyed many friendships and activities. She even served the treasurer for the Tenant’s Association. She could always get by with the simple belongings and never found the need to get her driver’s License. She happily used the bus to get around and do her shopping. She will be remembered for love and devotion to her family, positive outlook, quit wit, and being appreciative for the many gifts God has bestowed upon her during her 90 years.
Gertrude was the devoted wife of the late Guido P. Salvi. She was the loving mother of David Salvi & his wife Marlene of Burlington and Trudy Peters of N. Andover. She was predeceased by her siblings; Ruggerio Joseph “Jado” Baldacci, Theresa Marie Marcucci, Albina Orsi, Marie “Bessie” Catanzano, and Vanerio Guido “Bob” Baldacci. She was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
