Obituary of Edward Charles Flynn

Edward Charles Flynn passed away suddenly from a heart attack on Wednesday, November 5, 2014. He was 65 years old. Ed was born in Malden, the son of the late Edward and Elizabeth Flynn. He grew up in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School Class of 1967 where he was a varsity athlete in football, basketball, and baseball. It was also in high school that he started to date his future wife, Carole. Ed went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree from The University of Massachusetts in 1971 and married his high school sweetheart in August. Over the years they had made their home in Waltham, MA and Nashua, Amherst, and Milford, New Hampshire. Ed enjoyed his financial planning practice with Northeast Planning Associates in Hampton, New Hampshire. He derived great satisfaction in collaborating with his clients as they navigated through life’s financial challenges. He was a 30 year member of Heritage Park Baptist Church in Burlington. He served as a Deacon, Church Treasurer, and Adult Sunday School teacher and was active in other ministries. In recent years, he had been attending Merrimack Valley Baptist Church closer to his home in New Hampshire. Ed’s love of Jesus Christ his Savior and his devotion to his family were the hallmarks of his life. He has shared the past 43 years with his loving wife, Carole. They raised their daughters, shared their faith and dreams, and enjoyed travelling together with Ireland being their most treasured destination. He was a proud and caring father to his daughters and always supportive in their studies in music and theater. Their long talks and sharing of ideas and goals filled him with so much happiness. Ed was a passionate, life-long learner and loved to immerse himself in diverse topics that challenged him such as Ulysses, poetry, classical music, gravity and quantum physics. Even with all his acquired knowledge, he was a quiet man of humility, wit, and love. He will be greatly missed by all those he has touched in his lifetime. Ed was the sweetest husband to Carole (Whiffen) Flynn, the devoted father of Deirdre Flynn & her fiancé, Nick Fentem, and Siobhan Robinson & her husband, Jeremy, all of Denver, CO. He was predeceased by his brothers; James and Kevin Flynn. He was the son-in-law of Gilbert Whiffen & the late Jacqueline of Amherst, NH and brother-in-law of James &Wadad Whiffen of North Andover, MA, Robert & Melissa Whiffen of Nashua, NH, Pamela & Colin MacGray of Corinth, TX, and Douglas & Michelle Whiffen of Middleton, MA. Ed is also survived by nieces, nephews, and great-nephews who all meant so much to him. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Sunday, Nov. 9 from 3-6 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Heritage Park Baptist Church, 129 Lexington St., Burlington on Monday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend.
