Obituary of Joseph Stanley Simpson

Joseph Stanley “Stan” Simpson passed away at the Winchester Hospital on Wednesday morning, November 26, 2014. The beloved husband of 59 years of Mary Elizabeth (Cunningham) he was 82 years old. Stan was born in Cambridge. He was the son of the late Francis and Hazel Simpson. He was raised and educated in Medford and Somerville and a graduate of Malden Catholic High School. Stan was a veteran of the Korean War serving his country in the United States Army. He was the recipient of the Army of Occupation Medal. Stan and Mary married in 1955 at St. Catherine’s Church in Somerville. They lived in Woburn for 40 years where they raised their 4 children retiring to Wilmington for the last ten years. Stan worked for Bond Bros and then went to on to have a successful 30 year career at Raytheon working in both Burlington and Northborough. He started at Raytheon as an Assembler and retired as a Group Leader. Stan worked extensively on the Patriot Missile Development and it was his staff’s responsibility to fabricate prototypes from engineering designs. Stan’s life was all about family. Summers were spent together at the family home in Newfound Lake in NH. During his retirement year’s Stan was blessed to spend a lot of time with his grandchildren which brought him great joy. Stan was the first to volunteer for babysitting duty or taking his grandchildren to breakfast. He never missed one of their events. Stan was very proud to see his grandchildren grow into adulthood and start their own families. He loved his home and always had a garden with tomato’s being his specialty. Stan was also a huge football fan and could put on the television and watch any team but most especially enjoyed following the Patriots. Stan will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Stan was the beloved husband of 59 years of Mary Elizabeth (Cunningham). He was the loving father of Mary Jo Chase & her husband Richard of Woburn, Ann Simpson & her companion Robert Nagle of Wilmington, Mark Simpson & his wife Marianne of Pelham, NH and Elizabeth Duffy & her husband Gerald of Wilmington. Brother of George Simpson & his wife Helen of Conway, NH. Also survived by 10 grandchildren & 6 Great Grandchildren. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Monday, Dec. 1 at 8:45 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Dorothy Church, 11 Harden St., Wilmington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Sunday 1-3 p.m. Interment in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers memorials in Stan’s name may be made to the Charity of One’s Own Choice.
