Obituary of Nunzio Abramo

Nunzio C. “Dee” Abramo a man who loved his family, enjoyed longtime friendships, and enjoyed life passed away after a battle with cancer on Tuesday morning, December 16, 2014. He was 78 years old. Dee was born in the West End of Boston, the son of the late Salvatore and Bernadette Abramo. His family moved to Medford and he was a graduate of Medford High School. During his high school years, he and his friends formed The Four Grads band and later renamed the Band to the High Brows. They wrote some songs, made some records, but most importantly made lifelong friendships. Some of their small hits were; The Little Red School House” and “Walls of Jericho”. The guys would reminisce about their “Band Days” and reunite at special occasions and wedding to serenade their family and friends. Dee started his working career working at Mitre for 16 years in their repair department. He then opened his own company called Colonial Typewriter where he sold and repaired typewriters and other office equipment for 15 years. As technology changed, Dee worked with his son Paul running New England Fountain, a restaurant supply company and reseller of high end coffee and cappuccino machines. He retired after 20 years with the company. Dee loved being on the go. When he was young, he played soccer and ran track. When he was older, he played adult softball with his friends on the Misfits. He was always a big Boston Sports fan as well. He loved to travel and shared many vacations with family and friends in the Caribbean. Only a few years ago, he and his wife took the adventure of the lifetime when they took an African Safari. He enjoyed family vacations in Maine and Cape Cod. In the retirement years, he split his time between his home in West Dennis and Burlington. He couldn’t cook, but he was a great griller and his backyard and pool was a common gathering spot of family and friends. He was an adoring husband to his wife Lianne for 52 years. He was a supportive and encouraging father to his four children. He was a wonderful role model to his family and he seemed to effortlessly balance working hard with enjoying time spent with family and friends. He was also blessed to have 7 grandchildren whom he adored and always brightened his day. He proudly wore many hats during his lifetime from son, brother, husband, Dad, Papa, bandmate, friend, and businessmen. Dee will always be remembered for his own special style, warmth, concern, and love he shared with his family and friends. Dee was the loving husband for 52 years of Lianne (Powers) Abramo. He was the loving father of Paul & his wife Lorraine of Billerica, Stephen & his wife Sandra of Dracut, Michele Trabucco-Abramo of Billerica, and Philip & his wife Michele of Burlington. He was the brother of Joyce Sinagra of Deerfield Beach, FL and Salvatore & his wife Catherine of Burlington. He was the very proud Papa to Anthony, Kristin, Hannah, Lily, Alyssa, Joey & Mia Abramo. He was also the brother-in-law of Jacqueline & James Kelly of Hyannisport, Joseph & Margaret Powers of Riva, MD and Michael Powers of S. Boston. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Friday, Dec. 19 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials in Dee’s name may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute – Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place, West 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226 or to the charity of your choice.
