Obituary of Madeline Murphy

Madeline J. (Rupprecht) Murphy, a retired Burlington school teacher, passed away at the Woodbriar of Wilmington on Monday morning, December 12, 2011. The beloved wife of the late Andrew F. Murphy who passed away in 2008, Madeline was 83 years old. Madeline was born, raised and educated in Somerville. She was the daughter of the late Hugh and Catherine Rupprecht. Madeline went on to graduate from Salem State College with a Degree in Teaching. As a teen in Somerville Madeline worked as a Playground Instructor where she received many accolades for her work. Madeline and her husband Andrew married in 1950 and settled in Burlington in 1955 where they would raise their four children and become an active part of the community of Burlington. Madeline embraced her job as a teacher and was very proud of her career and her accomplishments. Her first job after graduation from college was teaching 4th Grade in Malden in 1949. In 1968 she returned to teaching in Burlington starting at the Memorial School and ending her career at the Marshall Simonds Middle School as a Team Leader and Administrator. Madeline made an impact on her students and has been remembered by many of them and their parents throughout the years. After their retirement Madeline and Andrew would winter in the Gulf Coast of Florida and summer in Maine. Madeline loved to be near the lakes, ocean and mountains. She led a very active life with her friends and family. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, bowling, camping and even cross country skiing. She was a devout Catholic and an involved member of St. Margaret’s Parish throughout the years. Madeline was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend and teacher who will be remembered for touching the lives of so many people in so many special ways. Madeline was the beloved wife of the late Andrew F. Murphy. She was the loving mother of Joan Nazzaro & her husband Gregory of Wakefield, Nancy Ober & her husband Dan of Grafton, Daniel Murphy & his wife Nancy of Reading, and Patricia Banks & her husband John of Wilmington. Madeline was the sister of Marie Little of Haverhill and the late Francis Rupprecht and Edith Totten. Grandmother of Jennifer & Laura Nazzaro, Rebecca & Paul Ober and Brendan & Ryan Murphy. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St.., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off rt. 128, Woburn side) on Friday, Dec. 16 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
