Obituary of Kathleen A. Gulde
Kathleen “Kay” Gulde, a homemaker and wife a local business person, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday night, January 3, 2014. The wife of the late John J. Gulde, she was 86 years old.
Kay was born in Woburn, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Devaney. She grew up in Woburn and was a 1946 graduate of Woburn High School. After High School she worked at New England Telephone until the birth of her first child. She married John Gulde in June of 1950 and they settled in Burlington.
Kay enjoyed her role as homemaker in the family. She had a wonderful marriage to her husband. She supported Jack as he started and grew his insurance business, John Gulde Insurance in Burlington. Kay and Jack were always seen around town together, whether it was at church, Knights of Columbus Socials, Minstrel Shows, and out a local restaurant. They enjoyed traveling and went on numerous cruises, trips around the United States and Europe. They enjoyed extended winter vacations in Jupiter, Deerfield Beach, Pompano, and Hillsboro, Florida for over 20 years. She was a very encouraging and loving mother to her 5 children teaching them the values of hard work, concern for others, and the importance of family. Kay loved being a grandmother, seeing her grandchildren grow up and enjoy each other’s company at her Falmouth summer home. She was truly blessed to see her grandchildren get married and the birth of her first great grandchild.
Kay was a longtime parishioner at Saint Margaret’s Church. She was active in the fundraising to build the current church and helped at the annual church fairs. She was a member of church’s Catholic Daughters. Kay lived a wonderful life filled with family and friends. Her passing brings sadness to those she loved, but they are also comforted to know she is reunited with her husband Jack and daughter, Kathy.
Kay was the loving wife of the late John J. Gulde. She was the loving mother of John “Jack” Gulde, Jr. & his wife Kathleen of Chelmsford, Cheryl Hansen & her husband Robert of Mashpee, Carol Cammon & her husband Fred of Winchester, Mary Biagiotti & her husband Richard of Burlington and the late Kathleen E. Gulde-Cook and surviving husband; Roger Cook of Burlington. She was the sister of Betty Murray of Andover and the late Joseph & Edward Devaney. Kay was the proud grandmother of Katie Rooney , Caroline Keeler, Adam & Vanessa Hansen, Jason & Molly Cook, Carly Carney, Michael Cammon, Richard & Kerri Biagiotti & Kimberly Gird and great grandmother of Wylie Rooney. She was the sister-in-law of Nancy Devaney and the late Alice Devaney.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-7:30 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
