Obituary of Joseph DeVingo

Joseph A. DeVingo, a retired electrician, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday morning, December 17, 2011. He was 69 years old. Joseph was born in Winthrop, the son of the late Edward and Josephine DeVingo. He grew up in East Boston and was a graduate of Boston College High School. He then served in the Air Force as an Airman First Class until January of 1964. He returned home and married Peggy Bazel in May of 1966. They eventually settled in Burlington in 1977 to raise their 4 children. Joe worked a long period at the Charlestown Navy Yard. He then went to work at Harvard Holding Box in Lynn. He spent 25 years with the company working as an Industrial Electrician. Joe was very talented when it came to tools, carpentry and automobiles. His home was his pride and joy. He purchased the home and finished the lower level himself. Over the years, he built decks and patios, remodeled kitchens and bathrooms, cut down trees and redesigned the landscaping. In his later years, he was running out of projects, so he started remodeling rooms which he had remodeled years prior. He loved working on automobiles, especially classic cars. He built his own hot rod T Bucket and owned many classic cars over his lifetime. He coached his son’s baseball teams and built back yard skating rinks for his children and their friends. He played goalie in a men’s hockey league. He loved the family vacations at Lake Winnipesaukee. He was always there to lend a helping hand for his children and loved being a grandfather. He was a loving and devoted husband, who enjoyed sharing time and raising a family together. Joe was the beloved husband of 45 years of, Margaret “Peggy” (Bazel) DeVingo. He was the loving father of Patricia of Burlington, Joseph, Jr., & his wife Robin of Norwood, Jennifer Montesanti & her husband Dominic of Billerica, and Elizabeth Leonard of Peabody. He was the brother of Antoinette Bennett of CA and the late Anthony DeVingo. He was the proud grandfather of Victoria, Isabella, Francesca, & Joseph DeVingo, Jaylen & Ava Montesanti, Alexandra & Brayden Leonard, and Devin Pelle. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Monday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
