Obituary of Phyllis Branco

Phyllis Branco, a Professional Cook passed away after long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease on Monday afternoon, January 12, 2015. She was 85 years old. Phyllis was born in Somerville the daughter of Portuguese immigrants, the late Joseph and Adelaide Oliveira. She grew up and was educated in Cambridge. She settled in Burlington in 1957. Phyllis worked for over 25 years as a Professional Cook at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. She was a talented chef and loved the interaction shared with coworkers and students. Phyllis enjoyed dancing, music, and time spent with family and friends. She had a genuine warmth and an incredible sense of humor. When you were around Phyllis you couldn’t help but smile and laugh. Phyllis was the beloved wife of the late Carlos E. S Branco. Loving mother of Eddie Branco of Woburn, Paulette Branco of Epping, NH, Paul Portrait & his wife Susan of Weston and Charlene McCarthy & her husband David of Billerica. Sister of the late Elizabeth Oliveira. Grandmother of David & Steven McCarthy, Jodie & Kim Branco, Michael MacQuarrie and Charlotte & Lily Portrait-Ridge. Also survived by 7 great grandchildren. A visitation will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, Jan. 15 from 10 –Noon. Followed by Graveside Services at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Bedford St., Burlington at 12:30 pm. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers memorials in Phyllis’s name may be made to Alzheimer’s Association Massachusetts Chapter, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
