Josephine A. “Jody” (McNeill McDermott) Tighe, passed away at Woodbriar of Wilmington Nursing Home, after a brief illness, on Sunday evening, January 11, 2015. The beloved wife of the late James F. Tighe, she was 84 years old. Jody was born in Wilmington. She was one of three daughters born to the late David & Gertrude McDermott. She was raised and educated in Woburn and a 1949 graduate of Woburn High School. Jody and Jim married in 1956 and settled in the Winnmere section of Burlington in 1958 where they would raise their two children. Jody and Jim enjoyed traveling and had travelled extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Ireland. They visited such destinations as Las Vegas, Utah, Nova Scotia, New York and Niagara Falls to name just a few places. Jody was an avid walker and could be seen walking frequently walking around Horn Pond in Woburn. Jody’s passion was that of Genealogy. She was a member of the Genealogy Society along with other organizations. When visiting NYC with her daughter Maureen and her family she spent a considerable time at Ellis Island doing research. Jody loved spending time with her daughter Maureen and her family enjoying many holidays and family dinners. Jody was the beloved wife of the late James F Tighe. She was the loving mother of David Tighe of Burlington and Maureen Spence & her husband Mark of Billerica. Sister of the late Margaret Strokes and Virginia Haggerty. Proud grandmother of Matthew & Michael Spence and Danielle, Cheryl, Jillian & Jennifer Tighe. Also survived by 4 great grandchildren. Mother-in-law of Cindy Tighe of Methuen. Funeral Services were private. Memorials in Jody’s name may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016.
