Obituary of John Joseph Stanton
John J Stanton Sr., a man devoted to his family, country, and community, passed away Tuesday morning, January 13, 2015 at the age of 87.
John was born in Waltham, the son of James and Mary Stanton. He grew up in Waltham and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School. John served in the US Navy as an offensive systems technician serving aboard the USS Massey. He spent over 30 years working at Victor Comptometer as a service technician. At the end of his career he ran his own business, J & F Stanton Company.
John and his wife Freda settled in Burlington in 1964 to raise their 5 spirited boys. After his retirement, John moved to Old Orchard beach, ME, one of his most loved destinations. A summer was not complete without a stay there where he enjoyed his days relishing the ocean and beach. John’s home was a gathering place for his children and grandchildren, as well as their friends, and was the sight of countless family memories filled with love and laughter. Florida was a favorite family destination, with many fond memories of Walt Disney World with his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing golf in his spare time, and was a member of the Wayland Country Club, taking part in several local tournaments. John joined the Knights of Columbus in Waltham and was currently the longest serving member at the Burlington Council. He was a member of their Bowling League and participated in many of the social and fundraising activities and events. He also worked part time at functions and events held at the K of C. John was pleased to see his sons following his footsteps and even serving as Grand Knight.
John was most proud of his family. He was married to his wife Freda for 57 years and they enjoyed traveling all over the United States and Europe together. When discussing his children, daughters-in-laws, and grandchildren the word “Proud” was always used. John's greatest achievements were those of his family. He had five wonderful sons and 11 grandchildren who in John's eyes could do “no wrong”. His grandchildren lovingly called him “Duddy”. His memory and spirit will continue to live in the hearts of his children and grandchildren. John was the loving husband of Freda (LeBlanc) Stanton. He was the father of David & his wife Joni of Palatine, IL, Daniel & his wife Cheryl of Burlington, Robert & his wife Rebecca of Billerica, John Jr. & his wife Jennifer of Tewksbury and Thomas & his wife Paula of Billerica. He was the brother of Anthony of Holliston & the late Irene Aucoin, and James, Francis and William Stanton. He was the proud grandfather of Patrick, Laura, David Jr., James, Branden, Meredith, Erin, Jack, Molly, Kathryn and Julia.
