Obituary of Mariantonia Cotignola

Cotignola, Mariantonia, a woman devoted to her family, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday morning, January 27, 2015. She was 69 years old. Mariantonia was born 70 miles south of Naples, Italy in the small town of Sala Consilina. She was the daughter of the late Addolorata Tierno and Francesco Cotignola. She was one of five children and had a very large extended family in her hometown as well. She grew up helping her mother in the kitchen and learning her family recipes, and worked for a while as a hairdresser. She fell in love with Vincenzino Imbrenda, they married in Sala Consilina, Italy and moved to Venezuela to start a new life, where they spent 40 years. Mariantonia’s focus was that of caring for her family and home. She was a devoted wife, a caring and supportive mother and loved by everyone who knew her. She was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain. Her home was often the gathering place for family and friends to enjoy a delicious Italian meal and each other’s company. She gave her daughters the opportunity to go to the United States for their college education, where they settled. When her health was declining and she needed more care, she and her husband came to live with their daughters. She had the opportunity to spend her last years reunited with her daughters and getting the opportunity to grow closer to her grandchildren. Mariantonia was the loving wife of 42 years to Vincenzino Imbrenda. She was the loving mother of Addolorata Imbrenda & her husband Eduardo Gamez of Stoneham and Giusi Imbrenda & her husband Nelson Acosta of Burlington. She was the sister of Caterina and Regina Cotignola of Italy and the late Giuseppe and Michelle Cotignola. She was the proud grandmother of Gabriel and Natalia Acosta of Burlington and Isabella and Giulia Gamez of Stoneham. A visitation will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington on Saturday, January 31 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will follow at St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn Street in Burlington at noon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The interment will be private.
