Obituary of James E. Mozzicato

James Eugene Mozzicato, a retired Aerospace Engineer, passed away suddenly on Monday evening, February 9, 2015. He was 79 years old. Jim was born in Medford the son of the late James and Margaret Mozzicato. He grew up in Medford. He was a 1952 graduate of Malden Catholic and a 1956 graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He later earned his Master’s Degree from Northeastern University. Jim started his career at General Electric and then went to work as an Aerospace Engineer at AVCO/Textron. For over 40 years he worked on a wide variety of classified projects including Missile Systems, Tactical Munitions and Reentry Systems. He enjoyed the many challenges of his work and the relationships he had with his coworkers at the company. Jim and Gloria were married in 1957. They made their home first in Watertown, where Jim became very involved in local politics. He was the Election Commissioner and a member of the Finance Commission. He helped run many political campaigns and was an instrumental in introducing voting machines in Watertown. Jim was a member of the Watertown Lodge of Elks and the Sons of Italy. In 1972 Jim and Gloria moved to Burlington. He continued his deep interest in local and national politics and always followed the events on Fox News, but chose not be as personally involved in town politics. He spent his leisure time oil painting landscapes, traveling all over the World and pursuing an interest in astronomy. He learned how to play the guitar and banjo and then went further to make his own musical instruments in his workshop. Jim enjoyed freshwater fishing and working in his garden. He loved being a grandfather and spending time with his grandkids. He loved teaching them how to garden and enjoyed seeing their faces when it was harvest time. Jim loved life, his family, and his many close friends. He made a major impact in his industry throughout his career and has left lasting memories in all those he touched in his 79 years. Jim was the beloved husband of 57 years of Gloria M. (Aruda). Loving father of Susan Mozzicato of Woburn and Richard Mozzicato & his wife Barbara of Burlington and John Fleming & his wife Teresa of Coral Gables, FL. Brother of Marianne Wilcox & her late husband William of Billerica, Sr. Catherine Mozzicato CSJ of Belmont, Nancy Allison & her husband Roy of Hebron, CT and the late John & his late wife Joyce Mozzicato. Proud grandfather of Allison & Emily Mozzicato of Burlington and Ryan Fleming of Coral Gables, FL. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 11 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at Noon. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
