Obituary of Mary D'Errico
Mary was simply the type of woman who brought a smile to your face with her warmth, humor and over the top kindness. She was born in Cambridge and was the daughter of the late James and Rose Gilbert. She grew up and was educated in Waltham. She married her husband John in 1941 and they raised their daughters in Arlington. After her daughters all married and relocated to Burlington, Mary and John soon followed and have made Burlington their home for almost 40 years. Mary worked for 35 years at BBN School in Cambridge. She held so man roles in the cafeteria including: cook, server, assistant manager and fun coordinator. She never wanted the students to go hungry so she always heaped their trays with food. She always greeted the students with a smile and a witty comment or joke. Mary was always on the go. She played softball in Arlington well into her late fifties. Her team, “Playboy Bunnies” won the league for 10 years straight. Her team spirit led her to collect anything with a Playboy Bunny logo. She exercised regularly and swam at the YMCA. She attended the daily mass at ST. Mary’s Church. She enjoyed traveling with her family on cruses, road trips and other vacation destinations. Her most important hobby was taking care of her family. She was often compared to Mario Andretti when it came to her driving. Mary’s home was always full of family and kids. She was the fun grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She would take the grandkids to work when BBN was holding summer camps. During the summer months her pool was always full of kids having a blast. Sunday dinners were a favorite for all her family. She showed them how to love, be compassionate, believe in God and, most importantly, how to have fun and enjoy the company of family and friends.
Mary was the beloved wife of 52 years of John J. D’Errico. She was the loving mother of Rosemarie Murphy and her husband Edward, Elizabeth Bagni and her husband Richard, Mary Boogaard and her husband Ray all of Burlington and the late John D’Errico Jr. She was predeceased by her sisters: Muriel Dolan, Jean Walsh, Edith Abel Mae Papalia and Dorothy Marshall. She was the proud grandmother of Kathy Nasta, Jeanne and Edward Murphy, Jr., Richard Jr., John and Anthony Bagni, Darlene Harring, Christine Talbot, Holly Boogaard, and the late Cindy Murphy-Funderburk. She was the great grandmother of 14 and the great great grandmother of 7.
