Obituary of Steven Walsh

Steven D. Walsh, a retired Dispatcher from New England Telephone, passed away unexpectedly at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center on Thursday morning, February 19, 2015. The beloved husband of Judy (Fifield), he was 74 years old. Steve was born and raised in Cambridge. He was the son of the late John and Agnes Walsh. Steve was a graduate of Rindge Tech in Cambridge. At the age of 19 Steve began his career at New England Telephone. He started as a collector of coins in pay phones and rose to the ranks of Dispatcher for the pay phone department. Steve took early retirement at the age of 55. As a young child Steve and his family would vacation in Maine which became a very important and constant part of his life. During his High School years Steve would spend his summers in Maine working. Every summer it was a different job one year working at one of the vacation hotels After they married Steve and Judy would spend many wonderful times at their summer home in York Beach. Steve always had a love of the ocean whether it was fishing with his uncles as a young child or enjoying spending time on his own boat with Judy and the girls. Steve and Judy settled in Burlington in 1968. He took great pride in his yard and his home. In the winter months you would always see Steve out there snow blowing his drive way and always lending a hand to help out a neighbor! Steve was a part of the Wish Tree Holiday Program for People Helping People doing the daily pick up of the gifts at the Burlington Mall. He did this for many years and loved being part of the program. He was very proud of his two daughters and their accomplishments. He was blessed to have two grandchildren that he adored. Steve will be remembered as a quiet unassuming man who had great love and devotion for his wife Judy and his two daughters Cheryl and Kim. Steve was the beloved husband of 46 years of Judith “Judy” (Fifield). Steve was the father of Cheryl Lachendro & her husband Kevin of Georgetown and Kimberly Walsh of Burlington. He was the proud Grandpa of Caroline and Kyle. A visitation will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Monday February 23 from 4-8 p.m. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend.
