MARY LANGONE FAMILY EULOGY
So many wonderful things were said about my mother at the wake last night and today, I want to share our remembrances on behalf of the family.
Mary, Maizy, Ma, Mom, Nannie, Nana , Mrs. Langone
She fulfilled many roles for all those who loved her.
"e;There will never be a woman like her"e; - that's what our Dad said, and he is right.
Dad was the great love of her life. They met at a dance in 1947. They married in the original St. Margaret’s church, and shared nearly 64 years of marriage and devotion to each other and to family.
Her kids were the great joy of her life.
She loved the babies and loved them a lot because she had 8 - Mary Ellen, Jeanne, Louis, Richard, Kathleen, Michael, Eileen and Joey. She loved and nurtured us, played with us, fought for us, and she taught us self-reliance. Having given us those tools, she unselfishly encouraged us to live our own lives, accompanied always by her words of wisdom.
Growing up when had disagreements with Mom she would tell us "e; Wait till you have your own kids"e; and we did.
Then she said "e;You have not lived until you have grandchildren"e; Then she imparted her own wisdom to her grandchildren in their words: -She told us what we needed to hear, not what we wanted to hear -Encouraged us to seek our happiness --always with a little bit of Nana opinion inserted -Follow your passion, get your education and prepare yourself for a good job – she told her kids that too.
Her 13 grandchildren - Sean, Megan, Jason, Andrew, Katie, Heather, Eric, Kyle, Sara, Rachel, Kelly, Brendan, and Anthony
all knew how much she loved them and cared, and she showed it. She had a special bond with each grandchild.
She was always there for them.
She attended christenings, graduations, concerts, dance recitals, birthday parties, soccer, football, lacrosse , baseball games - traveling near and far. She was overjoyed when she became a great grandmother to Connor and got to know him and see him grow on Skype.
As times changed Mom did to. She channeled her energy from being a great mom to going back to work at age 50, after 25 years raising a family.
She was fearless, embarking on a full-time career. She was proud of her many accomplishments. Starting out at Coppercraft Guild, first as a saleswoman, then a manager - getting new cars and winning trips for her sales awards : most notably the Paul Revere Cup - she did have the gift of gab. And those trips allowed Mom and Dad to enjoy after years of sacrifices these special memories together,
At Varian she was an office manager, computer guru, and mother to her sales guys - offering up her carrot cake, cupcakes, and her life wisdom. Varian became a second home for her until her retirement at the age of 80. Mary, also known as Taz, loved the Varian family, and they loved her old-fashioned strong work ethic.
She was warm, engaging, and funny with a contagious laugh, and she could make friends on the spot - Richie telling story when she was in Vegas at the casino, she cheered a man who had just hit the slots and 15 minutes later, she is sitting with him and introduces her new friend Tom, the dentist.
She did seem to always go at a fast pace - speed racing through the grocery store, cooking her famous curly bacon and eggs for an army, putting a turkey dinner together in record time.
The only time she slowed down was when she walked the lake - that was her daily solace for many years.
Mom had a soft side too, she was generous and caring and welcomed all of ours and then the grandchildren’s friends in their home, even ex-boyfriends still wanted to come around because of the delicious food in endless quantities. They all wanted to adopt Mrs. Langone as their surrogate mother. And she was the only mother-in-law nobody ever complained about.
She gave her all to everything she did, with a passion and intensity, and vitality of spirit that is unmatched. She loved deeply and well and was cherished in return.
Throughout her life she had no regrets, and she always counted her blessings
Now we are left ….to hold dear in our hearts ….all the ways she blessed our lives.
Rest in Peace Mom
