Obituary of Ursule Fickett
Ursule G. Fickett, a resident of Burlington for 49 years passed away after a short illness on Monday night, April 20, 2015. She was 84 years old.
Ursule was born in Brunswick, Maine, the daughter of the late Edmond and Eva Lachance. She grew up in Brunswick where French was spoken at home and English was spoken at school. She was a graduate of Brunswick High School. While in High School she met her future husband, Daniel Fickett at a local dance. They married in 1949 when she was just 18 years old. Their early years of marriage were spent in Winthrop, MA, Utica, and Syracuse, NY. In 1966, they finally settled in Burlington to raise their 2 children. Ursule had worked many years as a sales clerk in the Hardware Department of Sears at the Burlington Mall. It isn’t often, that you see a wife who knows as much or more about tools than her husband.
Ursule enjoyed working, but her first job was that of homemaker. She was there for her children as they grew up, driving them to their sports and activities encouraging them to take on challenges, and always there with a sympathetic ear and shoulder when things didn’t go as planned. She taught religious education and was an avid reader with mystery novels being her favorite genre. She enjoyed going out to the movies and family camping trips and vacations on Cape Cod. She was a talented cook, who had a counter full of cookbooks and who was always trying new recipes and adding them to her repertoire. She loved her family, her home, and playing a vital part in her children and grandchildren’s lives growing up.
Ursule was the beloved wife Daniel W. Fickett. She was the loving mother of Christopher Fickett of Billerica and Kimberly McGonagle & her husband Kevin of Burlington. She was the sister of Edmond Lachance, Jr. of SC, the late Rejeanne Kamberg and Chanel & Larry Lachance. Ursule was the proud Memere of Noah & Heather Fickett and Chloe & Brady McGonagle. She was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
