Obituary of Ethelyne Farquharson

Ethelyne Farquharson, a retired administrative assistant, passed away unexpectedly on Monday morning, April 20, 2015. She was 92 years old. Ethelyne was born in San Antonio, Texas. Her family moved to Allston, MA when she was 2 years old. She grew up and was educated in Allston. She started dating her husband Alec while she was in High School. They knew that Alec, like most young American men, would soon be called by his country to serve in the military in WW II. So, they were married on July 5, 1942. She was only 19 years old. Alec entered the Army in October of 1942 and was fortunate to be stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. Ethelyne soon followed him and contributed to the war effort by working as a secretary to the General on the Base. After the war, Alec and Ethelyne purchased a home in Quincy where they made their home for many years. In 1962, they moved to Burlington to raise their family. When her youngest entered Junior High School, she returned to the workforce as an administrative assistant at Houghton Mifflin Publishing Company in Burlington. Ethelyne carried herself with a sense of grace and style. She would never leave the house unless her hair, outfit, and nails were perfect. She had a wonderful group of friends that they called the “Club”. The friends would get together regularly for dinners, celebrations, and enjoyed the many memorable stories they shared over the many years together. She also had a great devotion for her family. She was the loving and devoted wife to her husband Alec, who passed away in 2008. She was a loving, caring, and encouraging mother to her children and later grandchildren. She was a wonderful baker and would fill her home with the sweet aromas of her culinary creations. Ethelyne was the loving wife of the late Alexander Farquharson. She was the loving mother of Alexander Farquharson, Jr. & his wife Carol of Greenville, SC, Bruce Farquharson & his wife Anne Marie of the Philippines, and Leslie Merrill & her husband Widge of Topsfield. She was the sister of the Barbara Brown of Beverly Hills, FL, the late Harry, Robert, and Kenneth Newton. She was the proud grandmother of Alexander Farquharson, III of Taylors, SC and Andrew Merrill of Telluride, CO and great grandmother of Ethan Farquharson. Funeral services were private. Memorials in Ethelyne’ s name may be made to a charity of one’s own choice. For obituary & online guestbook see www.sullivanfuneralhome.net
