Obituary of Marie Caputo
Marie A. Caputo, a loving wife of 61 years, passed away after a long illness on Thursday night, April 30, 2015. She was 80 years old. Marie was born in Glen Cove, New York. She was the daughter of a Sicilian immigrant, Pasquale “Patrick” Orlando and an Irish immigrant, Margaret (O’Rourke) Orlando. She grew up in Glen Cove and was a 1952 graduate of Glen Cove High School. During her high school years, she met her future husband John P. Caputo, of Winchester, MA. They had a long distant relationship filled with trains and buses as they courted. They were married on April 24, 1954. They started a family and with career changes, settled in Burlington, MA in 1964. As her husband John worked at Raytheon as an engineer, Marie remained home raising their children and tending to all the affairs at home. She was a talented seamstress and would make dresses for her daughter and herself. She was a wonderful Italian cook and would spend hours in her kitchen cooking up homemade dishes and sauces. Her family especially appreciated her homemade Italian sausages. She enjoyed working in her garden and harvesting her fresh vegetables. She loved to shop and was always on the hunt for the ultimate bargain. In her later years she enjoyed vacations spent in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and the Caribbean beaches. She and her husband had an incredible chance to spend a year in Germany on Business. They took every opportunity to see as much of Germany and Europe as they could during that year. What Marie will most be remembered for is the love and kindness she shared with her family and friends.
Marie was the loving wife of 61 years of John P. Caputo. They cherished raising a family together and strong connection to each other. She was a loving and caring mother of James Caputo of Owasso, OK, Susan Strezo of Burlington, and the late Linda and John P. Caputo, Jr. She was predeceased by her siblings; Patrick Orlando and Phyllis McCarty. Marie was the loving grandmother of Melissa Caputo of Fredericksburg, VA, Kathryn and Allison Caputo of Tulsa, OK, Christina and John Strezo of Burlington and great grandmother of Will, Lucas, and Ethan.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday May 5 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Monday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. Memorials in Marie’s name may be made to the John P. Caputo, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, 66 Skilton Lane, Burlington, MA 01803.
