Obituary of Jodi Dickie
Jodi Dickie, beloved wife of Franklin Dickie of Burlington, a woman who embraced life and loved her family passed away after a long and valiant battle with cancer on Saturday morning, May 16, 2015. She was 44 years old. Jodi was born and raised in the Winter Hill section of Somerville. She was a 1988 graduate of Somerville High School and later earned a degree from the Computer Learning Center. Over the years, Jodi had worked in a wide variety of careers, she was a clerk at AC More, a floral designer at Freesia Florist, a waitress, a bank teller, and a computer programmer, but the job she loved most was being a homemaker, wife, and mother.
Jodi was a very special woman who always made things exciting. She was extremely colorful and animated. Jodi was at her best cooking in the kitchen while sharing her favorite stories about her family. She was positive and loved caring for others. During her illness, she never complained of her own pain and was more concerned with how her family and friends were affected. She tried to cheer everyone up and continue to make happy memories which they all treasure. Even in her last days, she was in the kitchen making chicken soup from scratch and trying to make reservations for dinner at a restaurant on her bucket list. She checked off nearly everything on that bucket list.
Jodi showed her family she loved them by preparing their favorite foods and cooking huge family dinners during the holidays. Jodi loved going on vacations with her family and extended family. She would get the idea in her head that everyone should go away, whether it was to Wilson Lake, York Beach, Oregon, or Mexico, and next thing you know she would have 15 to 25 family members joining her on a trip. Having a trip to plan and pack for gave her and her family something positive to look forward to and experience. Jodi loved to spearhead the creation of these happy times for her family. She always packed 3 times as much of everything as was needed, because she absolutely had to have “options.” Her spontaneity kept her family near, and always on their toes. Jodi was the glue that held her family together. She has left her family so many wonderful memories that will always bring a smile to their faces and warmth to their hearts.
In addition to Franklin, she was the caring and loving mother of Melissa Dickie of Keene, NH, Emily and Joan Ruth Dickie of Burlington. She was the loving daughter of Alberta Leach of Newburyport, formerly of Somerville and the late Jack Leach. She was the sister of Jack Leach, Jr. of Portland Oregon, Julie Sahlas & her husband Bill of N. Andover, and the late Scott Leach and sister-in-law of Mark Dickie & fiancé Nadine of Winchendon, Richard Dickie of Lowell & his late wife Carol, and Eric & Robin Dickie of Burlington, as well as many nieces and nephews.
