Obituary of Julia McGrath
Julia Chisholm McGrath, a woman who placed her trust in the Lord Jesus passed away suddenly at her home on Monday, May 25, 2015. She was 82 years old. Julia was born in Boston, the only child of the late Daniel and Christine MacInnis.
Julia grew up in Boston, graduating from Girl’s High School and, as a young girl, loved spending her summers with her grandparents in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
Later, she married Charles M. McGrath and together they raised a family of 2 boys and a girl. She was widowed when Charles died unexpectedly in 1983. She returned to the workforce and worked at Filenes and then Macy’s Department stores in Chestnut Hill and in Braintree for 27 years.
Julia was a woman of family and faith. She was a loving and supportive mother who made many sacrifices to provide for her children. She loved being a grandmother and being a part of her grandchildren’s lives. She was always present at their sports, dancing, and school events.
She found a home at Grace Chapel, where she could freely share and deepen her faith. Julia was involved in many committees, events, and ministries at the church. She especially enjoyed the “Mom to Mom” group which was a mentoring group for young mothers. Her faith and love of Jesus radiated from her every day.
She was there with comforting words and helping hand. She was well known for getting friends together for luncheons, visits, and church events. Julia’s memory will always bring a smile to her family and those she touched in her 82 years.
Julia was the beloved wife of the late Charles M. McGrath. She was a loving mother of Glenn McGrath & his wife Barbara of Grayslake, IL, Deborah Gabrielson & her husband Richard of N. Hampton, NH, and Craig McGrath & his wife Sandra of Andover. Julia was the proud grandmother of Katherine, Michael, Abigail, Charlie, Emma, & Ava McGrath and Courtney, Gretchen & Britta Gabrielson. She was also survived by her brother & sister-in-laws; Jean MacLeod of Brockton, John & Minnie Nolan of Norwood, Lily McGrath of Hyde Park and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Grace Chapel, 59 Worthen Rd., Lexington on Friday, May 29 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
