Obituary of Ermie Raske
Ermelinde L. “Ermie” née Fuchs Raske, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2015 in Lowell, Massachusetts at the age of 87 years.
Ermie was born on October 23, 1927 in Greenwood, Wisconsin to Fred and Mary Katherine Fuchs née Brost. She spent her early childhood on the family farm. The Fuchs were a musical family. Ermie and her siblings enjoyed singing and playing instruments together as well as getting into all kinds of mischief including riding pigs and driving the family car into a ditch. She graduated from Phillips High School in 1945 and married Charles F. Raske on February 5, 1948. His work as an N.C.O. in the United States Air Force in the field of cryptography lead them around the globe with stays in Great Britain, The Philippines and Italy as well as many locations in the United States.
Passionate about nature, Ermie enjoyed walking in the woods bird watching, wildflowers and gardening. She shared her love of the outdoors with her children and others through her many years of involvement with the Girls Scouts of America, where she served as treasurer of the Mystic Side Girl Scout Council. Engaged in her community, Ermie served as President of the Burlington Historical Society from 1980-85 and was an active choir member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church. She also was a long-time member of the Sweet Adelines, Liberty Belle Chapter.
Ermie was a uniquely kind, caring, generous, courageous and very active individual. She was a remarkable woman who made life an adventure and will be greatly missed.
Ermie was the beloved wife of the late Charles F. Raske. She was the loving mother of Daniel J. Raske of Burlington, Timothy C. Raske of Franconia, NH, Mary J. Rasmussen of Tewksbury, Catherine A. Raske of Wilmington, Charles F. Raske Jr. of Lowell , Evelyn M. Raske of MA, Albert J. Raske of CA & Patrick E. Raske of CA. Grandmother of Leah Tempesta-Cosenza, Marc Tempesta, Rachael Raske, Lindsey Raske and Alexander Raske. Mother-in-law of Michael Rasmussen, Steven Peak , Rose Raske & Mary Lynne Raske. Sister of the late Clarence Fuchs, Marie Sexton, Margaret Vacula, Rev. Fred Fox & Virginia Heinrichs. Also survived by many nieces, nephews & friends.
Visiting hours are Tuesday, July 7, 2015 from 4-8 p.m.at the Edward V. Sullivan Home, Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) Funeral will be from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 8 at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret’s Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials in Ermie’s name may be made to St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington, MA 01803
