Obituary of Alice Welch

Alice A. (Donovan) Welch, a woman devoted to her family and her faith, passed away at her home in Billerica with her family by her side, on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 she was 79 years old. Alice was born in Boston. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Clara Donovan. She was raised and educated in Somerville. It was while she was in her Junior year at Somerville High School that she would meet her future husband Donald who was a Senior. They married in 1953 and would have celebrated their 62 wedding anniversary this year. Alice and Don lived in Somerville until moving to Burlington in 1971 where they would raise their four daughters. She worked for a period of time at Undercoverwear in the Customer Service Dept. She also worked for Associated Testing Labs in Burlington for eight years retiring as a Supervisor. Alice was a devout Catholic and had a deep faith in God. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Margaret’s in Burlington. In her early years at St. Margaret’s, she had the pleasure of hosting weekly dinners for Father Crispo treating him to his favorite meal of beans and franks or a weekly Wednesday morning breakfast. After the meal, Father Crispo and Don would enjoy a game of cribbage. Alice was a woman who was full of life. She enjoyed music and dancing. Alice and Don enjoyed traveling together and trips to Maine and New Hampshire where two of their favorite destinations. She was blessed to have 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren that she was very proud of. Alice had 61 wonderful years of marriage to her husband, Don, who was the center of her world. Alice was the beloved wife of Donald. She was the loving mother of Debra Convery of Hampton, NH, Cathy Fichtner of Billerica, Sandra Davis & Robert Urquhart of Tewksbury and Sharon Morgan-Jones & Mike Jones of Londonderry, NH. Sister of the late Marilyn O’Rourke. Beloved Grammie to 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, July 11 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Alice’s name may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, Development Dept. & External Relations, 360 Merrimack St., #9, Lawrence, MA 01843.
