Obituary of Anna Callahan
Anna N. “Ann” (Orrino) Callahan, a woman who devoted her life to her family and helping others, passed away at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House, on Saturday morning, July 18, 2015. The beloved wife of 47 years of Dennis F. Callahan, she would have celebrated her 82 birthday on July 26th.
Ann was born in Campobasso Italy. She was one of five children born to the late Carmen and Bambina Orrino. At the age of 5 her family moved to the United States and would settle in Watertown where she was raised and educated. She would marry Dennis Callahan in 1967, the same year they moved to Burlington. Ann started working in the accounting department of Raytheon in Waltham in 1950. She retired in December 1968 when she was expecting her first child. She then stayed home to raise her two sons.
Ann was the type of individual who was always giving of herself to others. She volunteered for the 4th grade class and at the Library of Memorial School where her two sons attended elementary school. She was also a longtime volunteer at Winchester Hospital. Ann and Dennis had a wonderful life together. They enjoyed traveling and had travelled throughout the United States as well as Italy and Ireland. In 1984, the family went to the Olympics in Los Angeles, California. Dennis and Ann enjoyed taking long walks together. Ann was a devote Catholic and a longtime member of St. Margaret’s in Burlington.
Ann cherished the role of “Nana” to her granddaughter Meghan. She had a very special relationship with Meghan which was evident with all the cards and drawings that Meghan did for Ann while she was in the Hospice House these past two months. Ann was a loving wife, mother and Nana. She will be remembered as a woman who gave of herself to others and always put her family first.
Ann was the beloved wife of 47 years of Dennis F. Callahan. She was the loving mother of Michael D. & his wife Lori of North Andover and the late Richard F. Proud Nana of Meghan. Sister of Salvatore Orrino of Nashua, NH, Nancy English & her husband Angelo of Weston and the late John & Gennaro Orrino.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, July 22 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday, July 21st from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
