Obituary of Kenneth Meara

Kenneth John Meara, worked for over 40 years at Polaroid passed away after a long battle with cancer on Monday morning, August 10, 2015. He was 77 years old. Ken was born in Boston, the son of the late Else and Michael Meara. He grew up in Roxbury. He served in the Army from February of 1957 to February of 1960 spending a year of his active duty stationed in Germany. He married his wife Peggy in 1967 and they started their marriage living in Burlington. Ken worked for 40 years at Polaroid. He progressed his way up the ladder and ended his career as the Head of Safety. He loved his many years spent at Polaroid and his coworkers were like family to him. He still routinely got together with his fellow retirees where they reminisced about the old days and caught up with each other on currents events, activities, and interests. Ken was a devoted family man. He didn’t need to travel the world to be happy, rather simply being around his home with his family was his favorite pastime. Sunday dinners were a lifelong tradition. He supported son and daughter in their sports, educations, and interests. He spent endless hours at the Burlington Ice Palace watching his son play hockey and daughter figure skate. He loved being a grandfather, watching his grandsons take their first steps, go to school, and participate in sports. He will be always remembered for the love and kindness he shared with his family, friends, and coworkers. Ken was the loving husband of 48 years of Margaret “Peggy” (Doherty) Meara. He was the loving father of Cheryl Koczur & her husband Thomas and Christopher Meara all of Burlington. He was the brother of Else Dowlin of CA, Elizabeth Lane of Newton, Renee Pearson of AZ, William Meara of Randolph, Margaret Morrow of CA, Cathy Murray of Carver, and the late Robert Meara. Ken was the proud grandfather of Adam and Ryan Koczur of Burlington. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Thursday from 1-4 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
