Obituary of Julie Murphy

Julie Ann Murphy, a wife, mother and nana who was devoted to her family, passed away suddenly on Sunday morning, August 16, 2015. She was 75 years old. Julie was born in Boston. She was the daughter of Cecelia and John Monagle. She grew up in Charlestown and was a graduate of Cathedral High School in the South End. She married her husband Dan on August 18, 1962 and they shared 53 wonderful years together, raising 4 children and then being blessed with 9 grandchildren. She was very involved in their activities and very proud of their accomplishments. Julie was a humble woman with a strong faith and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She was a worker and volunteered her time at the Little Sisters of the Poor in Somerville and numerous other charities and sports programs including Woburn Youth Hockey. She had made Woburn her home for 45 years and had so many special friends and neighbors. She loved going out with her friends to dances, dinners, and other social events. For the past 10 years, she has made Wilmington her home and she quickly added to her large circle of friends. She was very active at the Wilmington Senior Center, where she participated in a wide variety of charitable and social programs. Julie loved to travel with her husband, family and friends. Some of her favorite destinations were Alaska, Hawaii, Ireland, Chatham in the summers, and Florida in the winters. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Julie also had a strong Catholic faith and enjoyed being a parishioner at St. Dorothy’s Church in Wilmington and Saint Barbara’s Church in Woburn. Her unexpected passing is difficult for her family and friends, but Julie has left them 75 years of wonderful memories filled with love and laughter. Julie was the beloved wife of 53 years of Daniel V. Murphy. She was the loving mother of Valerie Murphy and her fiancée Gary Grant of Marina Bay, Juliann Cadogan and her husband James of Wilmington, Daniel G. and his wife Kathleen of Foxboro, and Matthew and his wife Elizabeth of Scituate. Julie was the cherished Nana of Caileen, Bridget and Maeve Cadogan of Wilmington, Annie, Molly and Declan Murphy of Foxboro and Curran, Charlie and Nora Murphy of Scituate. She was the sister of Mary Powers of Wareham and the late Helen McCreevan. She was also survived by and will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington, MA (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Wednesday, August 19th at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Dorothy’s Church, 120 Main Street, Wilmington at 10:00 a.m. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Julie’s name may be made to the Tufts Medical Center Trust, Women’s Breast Health Center, Box 231, 75 Kneeland Street, Boston, 02111.
