Obituary of Sherwood Marshall
Sherwood W. Marshall a lifelong resident of Burlington succumbed to a long battle with kidney disease on Friday night, August 21, 2015. He was 66 years old. He was born in Woburn, the son of the late Albert and Dorothy Marshall. He grew up on South Bedford Street in the family homestead which eventually became part of the Mall Road development. He had a strong work ethic and worked long hours. His first job as a youth was a stable hand at the Crown W. Stables in Burlington. He then worked as a gas station attendant, manager of Starlite Carwash in North Reading, Owner of Marshall Service which was a gas station and car wash located on Main Street in Woburn. He ended his career working at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in their security department and central sterile supply. He took pride in whatever he did and loved interacting with people.
Sherwood was a humble man who simply enjoyed his family and home. He enjoyed watching his sons grow up and become fathers themselves. He loved following them as they played hockey and enjoyed having his sons friends over the house. He was blessed to have had a strong relationship with all his grandchildren whom he lived with and help care for. He really enjoyed being a “goof” and playing with the grand kids whom he adored. In his younger years, he enjoyed spending his summers in his modest cottage in Ogunquit, Maine. Sherwood will be remembered for his quick sense of humor, devotion to his family, unpretentious way, genuine concern for others, and his smile.
Sherwood was the beloved husband of Joyce A. (Hamel). He was the loving father of Sherwood & his wife Christine of Billerica and William & his wife Sara of Burlington. He was the brother of Albert “Lee” Marshall, Jr. of Solon, ME, Judith Malonson of NH, and the late Brenda Tassi. Sherwood was the proud grandfather of Jonathan, Joseph, Grace, Haley, and Timothy Marshall.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Thursday, August 27 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. Memorials in Sherwood’s name may be made to the Kidney Foundation, 85 Astor Avenue, Suite 2, Norwood, MA 02062.
