Obituary of Evelyn Holey
Evelyn L. Holey, a 71 year resident of Burlington, passed away suddenly on Saturday morning, September 5, 2015. She was 91 years old.
Evelyn was born in Medford, the daughter of George and Marguerite Molinari. She grew up in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School. During World War II, she worked for Stone and Webster, which was heavily involved in the war effort by designing and constructing manufacturing plants to support the military. She then worked as a nurse’s aid at Choate Hospital in Woburn. She spent her last 30 years working with Sears. She started in the Catalog Department in Woburn and then switched to Contract Sales in Burlington, which sold larger quantities of merchandise to high volume corporate customers. Evelyn enjoyed working with her clients and coworkers and found her career very rewarding.
On February 14, 1944 Evelyn married her husband George B. Holey and they settled in Burlington in 1949. Burlington was just a small farming community with mostly dirt roads and only several thousand residents. Evelyn was one of the original parishioners of Saint Margaret’s Church and was a member of the Catholic Daughters. She made her family the center of her universe raising her children and helping with the grandkids who happened to live next door. Evelyn was a fantastic cook and occasionally would tell her story how she was offered the opportunity to go to cooking school in New York. Sunday dinners were a big production for Evelyn. Family, friends, neighbors, and her children’s friends would often be guests at her dining table which on Sundays was held in the living room to accommodate the crowd who happily sat on benches to enjoy an afternoon of fellowship and great homemade cooking. Evelyn’s retirement years were spent split between Palm Harbor, Florida and Burlington. She enjoyed partaking in the activities and exercise classes at the Burlington Council on Aging. She loved to crochet blankets, Afghans, and other family heirlooms. She also was an avid reader. Evelyn was the glue that kept her family together and her memory will never be forgotten.
Evelyn was the beloved wife of the late George B. Holey. She was the loving mother of George B. Holey, Jr. of Orange, Mary M. Mulrain & her husband Thomas of Burlington and Marguerite M. Holey of Burlington. She was the sister of Joseph Molinari of Revere, Marguerite Remick of Reading, William Molinari of Tewksbury, the late Louis and George Molinari. She was the proud grandmother of Deborah Mulrain of Burlington, Janet Wright of ME, Christopher Mulrain of NH, and Eric Holey of Burlington and great grandmother of Timothy “TJ” Wright.
