Obituary of Henry Majchrzak
Henry M. “Hank” Majchrzak, a retired electrical engineer, passed away with his family at his bedside after a long struggle with ALS. He was 84 years old.
Hank was born in Boston, the son of the late John and Sophie Majchrzak. He grew up in the West End of Boston near the Charles River. He was a graduate of BC High School and Northeastern University where he achieved a BS in Engineering. He started his career at Sylvania and GTE before settling at Raytheon in their Missile Division. He worked extensively on guidance systems including the Patriot Missile. He was a member of the IEEE, which was the world's largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. Long after his retirement, he would get together with his fellow retired coworkers on a monthly basis, talking about technology and daily events.
Hank was a “Family Person.” He met his wife Mary when they worked together at Panther-Panco. Mary worked in the Payroll Department and wanted to put a face to the person with such a unique name, so one day she personally delivered his paycheck and the rest was history. They married and settled in Burlington in 1975. They enjoyed raising their 4 children, trips to New Hampshire and Cape Cod. He was very proud of all his children, their interests, activities, and achievements. He also loved being a grandfather. From baseball games and karate practices to dance recitals and marathon Monopoly games, Hank was there. Long conversations with his grandchildren about math/science and the Patriots were thoroughly enjoyed. He was a life-long Patriots fan and watched nearly every game with Mary in their coordinating Brady/Welker Patriots jerseys.
Hank also enjoyed eating out with both family and friends and had many favorite restaurants. He was well versed in current and world events, enjoyed crossword puzzles and would read the newspaper from front to back every day. He was a hardworking man, who loved his family and was a trusted friend. Quick with a joke and a smile, even in times of troubled health, Hank lived each day fully and his family continues to draw strength and inspiration from his example.
Hank was the loving husband for 63 years of Mary A. (Nickerson) Majchrzak. He was the loving father of John Majchrzak & his wife Karen of Kendall Park, NJ, Mary Ann Gruttner & her husband Jim of Lynnfield, Tery Berardinelli & her husband Steve of Walpole and Kris Hickey & her husband Rob of Bedford. He was the brother of Joseph Majchrzak & his wife Kathy of Litchfield, NH and the late John Majchrzak. He was the proud grandfather of Michael & Lisa Majchrzak, Kendall Gruttner, Andrew, Elyse & Luke Berardinelli and Owen & Will Hickey.
