Obituary of Alicia Martin
Alicia M. (Sferrino) Martin, a woman who devoted her life to her loving family, passed away at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center on Saturday evening, September 26, 2015 following a courageous and lengthy battle with kidney and liver disease. The beloved wife of Jeffrey Martin, and devoted mother of Ashley, Dean, Austin, and Samantha, she was 49 years old.
Alicia was born in Boston on December 7, 1965. She was raised and educated in Burlington by her adoring parents, Vincent and Deanne, and with her devoted brother, Michael. She was a 1983 graduate of Burlington High School. It was while in high school and working part-time at Caldor that she would meet the young man that would become her husband of more than 26 years. Alicia and Jeff began dating soon after they met, and would marry in in 1989. After graduating from high school Alicia went on to obtain an Associate Degree in Fashion Merchandising from Fisher Jr. College. She worked for many years, eventually becoming a “stay at home mom” completely devoted to her four wonderful children.
Alicia had a close and special relationship with her Mother, Father and Brother. As a young child she would spend many summers in Alton Bay, NH, and others travelling with her family to Europe, Canada, and other destinations throughout the United States. Alicia and Jeff lived in the Lowell area when they were first married eventually moving to Manchester, CT in 2004. Alicia was very deeply involved in her children’s lives, volunteering at the schools her children attended, and supporting all of their many extracurricular activities. As a family Alicia, Jeff and their children took many trips, including several to their most favorite of destinations - Disney World. Their last family trip, just this past August to Universal Studios in Orlando, will provide cherished and everlasting memories of the wonderful time Alicia spent with her family.
Alicia’s battle with kidney disease began when she was just 20 years old. She received several transplants over the years, including a kidney and liver transplant in 1991. She then enjoyed more than 20 years of near-perfect health, a period during which she gave birth to her four perfect and beautiful children. In addition to her tireless work as a wife and mother, Alicia volunteered time to the National Kidney Foundation to help raise money and increase awareness of kidney disease and organ donation. With what little free time she had, Alicia enjoyed reading, and spending time with her extended family of brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews, and countless devoted friends. She also adored the beach and soaking in the sun. Though she battled illness for many years, Alicia’s love of life and family was never defeated, nor was her lively spirit and outgoing personality. Her presence and warmth could always be felt by those around her, and her vivacious personality and laughter were contagious. She lit the world with her exuberance, and she will forever lift our hearts and spirits when we think of the wonderful life she led and the many lives she touched.
Alicia was a wonderful mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend. Her time with us was far too brief, but her touch, her love, and our love for her will never cease. She will remain in our hearts forever.
Alicia was the beloved wife of Jeffrey. Proud mother of Ashley Ann, Dean Hayden, Austin Tyler & Samantha Reis. Devoted daughter of Vincent & Deanne Sferrino of Burlington. Sister of Michael Sferrino & his wife Sara of Ayer. Daughter-in-law of Roger Martin & his late wife Dorothy of Lexington.
